Bonjour lecteurs! Not a topic worth talking about? Indeed, getting rid of rubbish at home can be a bit of a chore, but I have it all for you so that it does not feel overwhelming anymore! Whether you are going for a spring clean, moving house or just trying to keep you home as tidy as possible, here are some tips to help you handle your household waste effectively and keep your home clutter-free.
Plan Ahead
Before I start any major clean-up, I always have a plan in my head. It saves up so much time and effort.
A home can be a lot of work so start by identifying the spaces that need more love at first. I would start with the garage, the loft or any other room that you used a bit as a dump with all sorts of unused or unwanted items. Maybe do it bits by bits, one room a day?
I am clearing my wardrobe next week and I can’t wait for it! It’s a good way to freshen up my clothes. So excited to get all my cosy jumpers out and start thinking about outfits styling!
Sort and Categorise
One of the most effective ways to manage rubbish I find is to sort and categorise it as you go. This way, it’s easier when you get to the stage where you dispose of them.
I would start by separating your rubbish into different categories. Common categories include recyclables, general waste, and items that can be donated or sold.
Be aware that for recyclables, rules may vary from one council to another. A good reminder as well for you to book a slot to the recycling centre so that you can get rid of your rubbish ASAP instead of letting it pilling up again.
I usually give quite a lot to charities like Oxfam and the British Heart Foundation, but platforms like Facebook Marketplace or Vinted are also very useful to sell all your unwanted items.
Use the Right Tools
That might sounds like a cliché but having the right tools makes the job so much easier. From bin bags and boxes to gloves and cleaning supplies, let’s be préparé! I would opt for some sturdy bin bags for collecting general waste and recyclables.
Boxes are useful for sorting items that can be donated or sold. Label them clearly so you know what’s inside and where it needs to go.
Gloves are also a basique, especially if you sort out the garden or if you might come across sharp or dirty items. And then, I use cleaning supplies along the process.
Consider Professional Help
If you have a large amount of rubbish to remove, or if you’re dealing with bulky or hazardous items, you might want to get some professional help. Rubbish removal companies can take care of everything for you: collecting the rubbish but also dispose of it. It can save up so much tom and effort.
When choosing a rubbish removal company, look for one that is licensed and insured. This will give you peace of mind that they are operating legally and will handle your rubbish safely.
Be Environmentally Conscious
Nowadays more than ever, you got to try to be mindful of the environment when disposing of rubbish. Recycle as much as you can and disposing of hazardous items with care.
Take advantage of your local recycling facilities.
As for hazardous items, such as batteries, paint, and chemicals, I would check your local council’s website as they often help with those.
Regular Cleaning
Keeping on top of rubbish removal is much easier if you do it regularly. I know it does not sound much fun, but this way, it will not build up over time.
I try to sort out our home as often as possible and avoid hoarding things. I am not always parfaite, but I really try to get rid of anything we don’t use anymore. This will help to keep your home tidy and it feels so much better when you have a clean and clutter-free space.
I might not be officiellement a minimalist yet, but getting better at it!
Get the Whole Family Involved
If like moi, you are not a fan of household chore such as rubbish removal, get all the famille involved!
It will help the process get quicker and more enjoyable. After all, it’s not your only responsabilté!
I would ask younger children to help with simple tasks, such as sorting recyclables, while adults can deal with the most challenging jobs.
Clearing the garden can also be a team work. Grumpy Boyfriend might trim the bushes and I would put the bits away with Stanley. It’s also good exercise.
Donate and Sell
One person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure. As I said it before, I used to give away a lot to charities. But it’s’ worth consider whether it could be useful to someone else.
Items in good condition can be donated to charity shops or given away to friends and family.
Selling unwanted items is another great option, plus it can be rather fun. There are plenty of online platforms where you can sell second-hand goods, but I love using Vinted. Plus, it’s a nice way to make some extra cash too.
Motivation
Rubbish removal can be a big boring job. So to keep motivated, set yourself small and achievable goals.
Do one room or space in your home at the time. Or you can do it while listening to some musique or your fave podcast so it’s not as tedious and get others involved so it’s quicker!
Remember that the end result will be worth the effort – a clean, clutter-free home is always so much nicer.
Removing rubbish does not have to be that unpleasant. By following those idées simples, it will even become a more manageable task. All you need is a bit of planning, the right tool with la positive attitute et voilà! You’ll have your home looking spick and span in no time.
