The Crown in Chertsey – A Pub & Hotel Review

Bonjour lecteurs! Are you looking for a family-friendly destination to explore over half-term? We love a good UK staycation. There is nothing more British than a pub. So why not stay with Young’s Rooms? It’s the perfect countryside escape. The boutique pubs with rooms are always so charming and comfy. While we explored South-West London this summer, we récemment made it to the Crown in Chertsey, and we were really impressed! Here is my pub & hotel review to tempt you. What are you waiting for? Book a room now, and stop by Chessington World of Adventures or Thorpe Park while you’re there.

The Crown in Chertsey

The Crown in Chertsey, in Surrey, is full of charm. Indeed, the historic coaching inn dates back to the 16th century, but the current building is from 1899.

The pub is a cosy establishment with old-fashioned touches: exposed brick walls, wooden floorboards, and comfy sofas where you can relax with your family.

It’s so beautiful, and don’t even get me started on the facade. It gives French Normandy vibes!

Whether you are coming for a drink or staying overnight, it’s a classic pub with a little extra. If anything, it’s the most stunning inn we’ve stayed in.

Our Family Room

Contrary to what you would expect, the hotel is adjacent to the original pub, in a more modern-looking building. Featuring nearly 50 rooms, you can even book a dog-friendly stay. We got a family room right at the top, so we could enjoy the views of le village.

But not only… The space, for a start, was huge! As we walked in, the living area had been turned into a kids’ room for Stanley to relax.

He made himself right at home, with a welcoming biscuit and a book.

As for us, the most scrumptious super king-sized bed was awaiting us. The pub hotel certainly knows how to wow you.

From the vintage frames to the velvet cushion, the décor was on point. It looked élégant and timeless.

En plus, the family bathroom and the extra storage space ticked the boxes too!

L’Atmosphère

I explored the town and the boys headed to the pub for a drink. Stanley said hi to the fish in the garden pond, and we read and relaxed until dinner.

The pub was packed with families and locals. It’s clearly THE pub in town. No wonder; it’s truly stunning.

Sit by the fireplace and catch up with your friends, or book a table and savour some good food. This is a good spot to chill with style or enjoy a slow day at the weekend.

Food at the Crown in Chertsey

Dinner at The Crown was not your average pub meal. Whether you choose a spot in the beer garden or you sit at one of the comfortable wooden tables, you will be wowed by the quality of the food. There was such a buzz when we ate. It’s clearly a good spot for locals to dine out.

From pizza to local fish, you have a large array of choices. Stanley went for the kids’ fish and chips (great portion!), while I savoured some pizza and a side of broccoli.

Now, this is truly great. But le petit-déjeuner was the true jewel of our stay! Au menu, Vien French toast and Croissant ‘Croque Madame’. I am French, and I’ve never tried such a delicious twist on a croissant. But don’t worry, you can still enjoy a good classic old Full English Breakfast, and there is a buffet too. What a treat to start the day!

Chessington World of Adventures

After such a champion breakfast, we packed up and headed to Chessington World of Adventures. The Crown in Chertsey is well located. Indeed, you are only 5 minutes from Thorpe Park and 25 min drive to Chessington World of Adventures.

What else do you want to do during half-term? You might as well have fun with the little ones and go on a ride or two…

You can even check out Chessington at Christmas. We did it last year, and it was so much fun.

This time around, we spent quite a bit of time in the World of Paw Patrol, and it was un succés. You also got to go on some classic rides like the World of Jumanji or the Rattlesnake. Personnellement, I also love The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure.

There is something for children of all ages. Can you believe that Minecraft is coming to the park in Spring 2027?! How Exciting!

The Crown in Chertsey Review – Le Verdict

The Crown in Chertsey is probablement one of the most beautiful pubs I stayed in. It has everything to make you feel right at home and is in such a good location for you to have a lovely family getaway over half-term.

It’s beautifully decorated, and le service est excellent. The modern touches mixed well with the original features, and j’adore the inn’s colour scheme. We also made the most of our spacious room and enjoyed some delicious food.

Last but not least, the hotel’s proximity to Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland makes it the perfect location for a staycation over half-term.

We received a complimentary stay, with no obligation to share.
