Bonjour lecteurs! What are your travel plans for the rest of 2025? I have been browsing many options but I am yet to make my mind up about what to do for my 40th birthday. There are so many destinations I want to check out! Last month, I was lucky to go to Benidorm and I had une réelle aventure there. So I am looking at locations and I would love for us to go out of our comfort zone. Have you ever been to Iceland? I’ve been looking at renting a van with Cozy Campers and it sounds more and more like une bonne idée! I even put a full guide with all The Best Things To Do In Iceland With Kids.
Visit A Geothermal Pool
J’adore l’idée of soaking it all in while being in nature. The most famous ones in Iceland are the Blue Lagoon and the Secret Lagoon.
The Blue Lagoon is l’option parfaite as it features specifically designed for families. Just bring a floaty for the little ones
If it’s too much for you, you can just make it to a normal pool. Therre is one in almost every town and village. Personnellement, I would go for a scenic location in the countryside where you also have waterslides. Don’t worry about la température, they are heated.
Experience The Northern Lights
Bien sûr, if you make it to Iceland, you’ve got to witness the Northern Lights. It’s such une experience magique et totalement unique!
Have you ever done it? It sounds like such a dream! The best time to see them in Iceland is generally between late September and early April.
Apparently, it’s when you have dark nights and more geomagnetic activity. If you book one online, the best slots are between 9 pm and 2 am.
Camping
But if you decide to go for a full adventure with a camper van, then you can go camping in an area close by the région famous for the Northern Lights and maybe see it more than once?
Be aware that there are some restrictions in Iceland. Wild camping is illégal. But it’s quite a common activity in the country and I am sure you will find a campsite close to the woods for you to explore a new area.
Hiking
If you have older children, then you should definitely go hiking. Iceland is a fantastic destination for it as it offers a wide range of trails whatever your level.
The most popular destination to hike?
-
- The Laugavegur Trail with its astonishing diversity of landscapes (rhyolite mountains, thermal pools, glaciers…)
- Thórsmörk, the Valley of Thor, nothing else!
- Reykjadalur, which is famous for its spring river. Parfait to relax after a walk!
- Landmannalaugar, the iconic set of mountains.
Go for it between June to mid-September when weather is milder. The access to the highlands is then easier.
Explore In The Wild
I would also recommend you see a lava cave or a tunnel. Généralement speaking, just explore in the wild.
The Thingvellir National Park is one to see. C’est la place parfaite for outdoor lovers. Did you know, this is even where Iceland’s parliament was formed back in 930 A.D?
There is so much to do there: from snorkeling to diving, there is something for everyone. Personnellement, I would love to go on a tour in the crystal-clear waters of the Silfra rift. Apparently, it’s the only place in the world where you can swim between two continents! Quelle experience!
Horse Riding Tour
There are many horse farms throughout the country that you can visit with the little ones. How cute would that be? But if your children are bigger and love horse-riding, you can also go for a horseback tour. I did it back in Croatia (a bit of a different experience, but still!) and it was totally epic! The best feeling ever!
Par exemple, the Golden Circle Route takes you on a scenic route through southwestern Iceland and you can even see some great scenery and major sites.
I hope you find this mini guide helpful and you will have a lovely time. There are so many Things To Do In Iceland With Kids. C’est l’opportunité for you to have a great family adventure.
