Bonjour lecteurs! As you may already know, I am a huge advocate of Kent. I’ve been living in this beautiful area for over a decade now. Already when in London, I got to discover Bromley. But once we moved down to the Ashford area, I fell even more in love with the Garden of England. But despite having been living dans la région for over 6 years, there are still some areas we don’t know well. We love Canterbury, but we mostly make it to the city when we are there. So this summer, we had so much fun rediscovering Canterbury With Kent Downs Cottage.
Kent Downs Cottage
If like us, you want to discover Kent further and maybe make it to the coast to towns like Herne Bay and Whitstable, then the Kent Downs Cottage is la place parfaite for you.
This spacious cottage with 4 bedrooms can sleep up to 10 people and you get to see some beautiful views across the Kent Downs.
Not only the house is beautifully decorated with quirky touches and vintage furniture, but it’s also situated in un beau village called Petham only 10 min drives from central Canterbury.
The family-friendly holiday house is spacious and has it all for you to be comfy with WIFI, a garden with a BBQ and a modern kitchen all equipped.
L’Atmosphère
Regardez for yourself! As you go through the door, you will find a playroom on the left with traditional toys and books to keep all the family entertained.
We actually had a go at scrabble and it was such a lovely evening in the cuisine, with a good glass of wine, while looking at the country fields.
The décor was just parfait with vintage furniture and vibrant colours. J’adore the extravaganza of cushions and velvet seats everywhere mixed with the vintage ornaments.
The Cottage
The Kent Downs Cottage is très spacieux thanks to the open plan kitchen and living-room.
The kitchen on the right side was very light with modern appliances mixed with plants and vintaged decorations.
Once more, I loved the burst of colours from the chairs mixed to the more modern touches of the kitchen. It was so welcoming, a bit like a family house.
On the other side, you can find an equally colourful living-room. Connect to Netflix et voilà! You are set for a relaxing evening after exploring that part of Kent.
Overall, the ground floor summed up very well what was to come on the first floor.
The Rooms Upstairs
Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms with one family bathroom and an en-suite.
Once more, a mix of colours and vintage furniture turned the house into a relaxing space. Top mark for the beds that look like a Simba! We have one too and we love its design and comfort.
Stanley went for this room on while Grumpy and I stayed in the main bedroom with the en-suite.
I must say that the massive picture windows with a view on the hilltop was something!
And so was the modern en-suite. I loved it all from the mirror to the colour choice.
Overall, the Kent Downs Cottage has it all to please, mixing traditional rustic charms and more modern pieces like the beds etc.
Adventures In Petham
What do you think? Isn’t it charming? And so is the area! Petham is littéralement in the middle of nowhere. It’s just what you want when you book a holiday in Kent!
Having said that, the cottage is situé right by the village play area, so that’s really handy. We obviously had to go there every day and play with the local children! Stanley loved making new friends.
Bien sûr, he had a go at the exercise machines. But we also went for a walk into le village and while he was playing, I relaxed with a good book on a blanket.
Le paradis! It was so beautiful looking at the hill!
Beyond Le Village
If you want to chill and take it easy, the Kent Downs Cottage makes such une belle option. And there is so much more to explore.
We went to Whitstable and we loved walking along the coast, looking at the Isle of Sheppey, having a drink at the pub.
I dreamed of one of the colourful houses while he spent most of the afternoon trying to catch crabs and finished the day with a classique fish and chips…
It’s such a charming place!
I would also recommend you stop by Herne Bay, go on a ride on the pier or walk along the coast for some fresh air.
But the beauté of the Kent Downs Cottage is that you’re also not far from Thanet if you wanted to have a weekend at the beach! It’s beautiful!
En plus, on our last day, we also stopped by Canterbury before heading home. We played in Dane John Garden and enjoyed some yummy food at the Cosy Club.
But you can also do a bit of shopping at Whitefriars, catch up a play at the Marlowe Theatre or even go punting like in Cambridge! Either way, Canterbury has so much to offer! It was the perfect way to end a beautiful break!
