How Invisalign Works

First, you will start with an Invisalign consultation, where le dentiste or orthodentiste makes a 3D digital scan of the patient’s teeth. With this template, a series of aligners is used to gradually shift the teeth. Every aligner is worn 20-22 hours per day, and replaced every 1-2 weeks during treatment. For teens, Invisalign treatment typically lasts 12 to 18 months.

Pros of Invisalign for Teens

  • Invisalign aligners are transparent and almost invisible to the naked eye. C’est parfait if your teen is self-conscious about their appearances. C’est discret!
  • It’s comfy to wear as it’s made from a soft plastic. Invisalign aligners are softer than traditional braces, which can be irritating.
  • You can also easily remove your aligners for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. So it gives teens the freedom to keep their teeth clean and indulge in their favourite foods.
  • You will also need fewer orthodontic check ups. En général, appointments are shorter than braces because there are no wires to nudge around. This is easier for a teenager and their parents who have to get out the door.
  • You can also custom your aligners with compliance dots: par exemple, blue dots that disappear when the aligners are worn, keeping parents and dentists up-to-date on wear time. They also come with up to six free replacement aligners in case some are damaged.

Cons of Invisalign for Teens

  • To be fully effective, Invisalign aligners require 20-22 hours of wear per day. Teens who forget to wear them or take them off too long might take longer to receive treatment.
  • You can easily lose them. As aligners come off, your teens could end up losing them.
  • It’s not necessary le bon choix for everyone. Par exemple, it might not work for adolescents with extreme orthodontic concerns (large gaps, crowding, or complicated bite issues). Traditional braces may work better in certain cases.
  • Invisalign is usually more expensive than braces. While it can be costly, it may not be suitable for all families.
  • It can also be a little painful, particularly when it’s time to change aligners. It is a temporary condition and it means that your teeth are moving.

Invisalign is a contemporary and highly effective orthodontic procedure for teens who want to straighten their teeth discreetly and comfortably. C’est esthétique and the fact that you can remove them so easily is definitely a plus. But it can be demanding and may not be suited to more advanced orthodontic problems. You’ll want to check with an orthodontist to see if Invisalign is right for you and your kids before opting for it. Personnellement, a friend of mine embarked on this journey and she is very satisfied with the results so far. Worth a look.
