The Caxton Grill Review

Bonjour lecteurs! Back from a break over Christmas and I am now ready to share with you our recent visit to the Caxton Grill. Based in central London, le restaurant serves modern European food with its charcoal grill specials. We went to the elegant location just before Christmas to check out its children’s menu and more! So here is for you our very Frenchie Caxton Grill Review!

The Caxton Grill – Présentation

The Caxton Grill is located within the fameux St. Ermin’s Hotel, where we previously tested its gorgeous Afternoon Tea.

Literally 2 minutes walk from St. James’s Park tube station, le restaurant offers its guests a selection of classic dishes, as well as premium steaks if you fancy.

The grill is also very proud to use sustainable and locally sourced ingredients so that you can enjoy some food as fresh as possible. Indeed, the restaurant has its own rooftop kitchen garden, with its homegrown vegetables.

A restaurant that cares about bringing the best for its customers in the heart of Westminster? I am in!

The Caxton Grill – L’Atmosphère

As soon as we arrived, we were charmed by the soft ambience. Decorated with elegance and good taste, the place offers some good space.

There were some other families eating in but we still had some good privacy.

The room is set up so that you have some good space to circulate and we could easily get in with the buggy.

We had plenty of space on our table and it was lovely decorated with Christmas crackers.

Discover St. Ermin’s Hotel Too

As the St. Ermin’s Hotel is home to The Caxton Grill and The Caxton Bar, we had a little walk around and enjoyed the features available.

The bar is cosy with some soft lights so that you feel a bit like in a James Bond movie. Baba was eager to check out the place (moi aussi to be fair!), so we went all the way to the hotel reception.

As always, the entrance was truly stunning with a big sleigh and Christmas trees.

The entire place is very beautiful without being pretentious. And I must say it was actually very family-friendly (as always!).

We had a lovely time in both the bar and the grill. With its comfy chairs by the fireplace, you can even enjoy some drinks while the little ones play!

But let’s go back to our  Caxton Grill Restaurant experience!

The Caxton Grill – The Food

The Caxton Grill prides itself to use naturally delicious ingredients. All menus offer a varied choice so that you can get whatever you fancy.

We started with some bread and mustard butter. This was already a success with Baba!

We also enjoyed some wines and the waiter took some time to explain each time our drinks.

We got to test the Christmas List available at the time, but the usual A La Carte Menu has a good choice of meat and fish options!

Starters

For starters, I ordered the Portobello mushroom while Grumpy Boyfriend had the Beetroot cured monkfish.

Both arrived quickly and very well presented in large black plates. Accompanied by the right wine, each dish was a real treat!

Indeed, the Caxton Grill has a very impressive Wine List if yon enjoy a good drink.

Mains & Desserts

For the mains, I played it simple with roast turkey, the portion was just parfaite! I really enjoyed it and I was pretty full already! It is always a good sign!

My partner tested the red mullet and it was delicately cooked with its saffron sauce. Both were delicious.

And to finish with, some Douglas fir ice cream, poached kumquats and crisp meringue. Look at the presentation of our dishes! So elegantly done!

But I was not the only one enjoying some delicious food! Baba tested the Children’s Menu on the occasion and he was aussi in for a treat!

Children’s Menu

The last time we visited the St. Ermin’s Hotel, we were amazed by its Mini Gardener Tea. Well, the Caxton Grill did not disappoint either!

I thought the Children’s Menu was very generous. Baba started with some crudités and hummus.

For main, he ordered a burger. It was so huge when it arrived! Served with French fries, a real treat for a champion!

And he obviously finished his dinner with some ice-cream.

I am truly amazed by the Children’s Menu! Once more, it was like a mini adult version of a feast!

Une Anecdote

As always, I am going to be totally transparent with you! Let me tell you an anecdote.

I went to a Christmas party before our visit to the Caxton Grill. Anyway, withing the conversation, we got to talk about the restaurant and I explained to a lady that I was booked to review the place with my family soon after.

She was quick to tell me that the food was not nice and reviews were actually quite bad. I was truly horrified! I already agreed to do a review as a family and I was actually really looking forward to it.

Imagine how awkward it is when you are invited somewhere and it could potentially be a disaster.

Well, let me tell you something! I totally disagree with this person! We had a lovely time and the food was truly delicious! Morale de l’histoire, even if reviews can be informative (after all, this is my job!), it is also important to make your own mind up!

The Caxton Grill Review – Le Verdict

We truly enjoyed our experience at the Caxton Grill. The staff was friendly and you could see that they knew well the menu.

Our waiter answered all questions we had regarding our drinks and food and he was also very playful with Baba! En plus, I witnessed the same attention to details with other guests.

You feel welcomed and the atmosphere is very family-friendly.
