Nappies in the UK, the facts!

We have already entertained you when we told you How to handle very dirty Frenchie Poops in 10 steps.  But now looking back at the post (you better read it if you missed it, you will have a laugh for sure!), I realised that I forgot to mention some key item. Nappies or les couches in Frenchie. If you want to handle naughty poops (and god knows that Baba has had some terrible grumpy ones…), you must find la couche parfaite! The one and only that doesn’t leak and keeps you baby’s skin nice and soft.

But let’s share some scary statistics with you.

Currently, in the UK about eight million disposable nappies are thrown away each day, which accounts for about three percent of our household waste.

Disposable nappies in landfills take hundreds of years to degrade but also have a big impact on the manufacturing, transport, and chemicals they require.

I have always considered myself as an eco-friendly maman, but let’s face it. Baba and I are currently contributing to those alarming stats.

Sustainable Nappies

We featured many sustainable fashion brands on the blog before such as Bebe Bombom, From Babies With Love, Two Little Magpies, Hazelbou, Be Cute and many more! If you also want to be a good maman and help the planet, make sure you check those labels out!

So sustainable nappies are quite natural. And there is a cute brand in town that does so! Kit & Kin. Not only the brand’s name is super cute, but they also produce fab nappies.

About Kin & Kin

Kit & Kin has been created by co-founders Emma Bunton, Spice Girl, TV and radio presenter and UNICEF ambassador, and Christopher Money, Director of Product Development who brings over 15 years experience of developing mother and baby products for some of the world’s leading brands.

What a great team! I am a huge Spice Girls’ fan! Did I tell you that I still possess thousands of clippings about the most famous girls band?

Emma is now a mummy to two adorable little boys. “My son has always suffered from eczema and for so many years we struggled to find products that weren’t full of chemicals that would further irritate his skin. As a mother, my children are my number one priority and I do everything I can to ensure they’re always safe, healthy and happy. That’s why we’ve developed an amazing range you can trust to care and protect for your family as they grow.”

As a maman myself, I could not agree more.

So what are the Kit & Kin nappies’ features?

  • Kit & Kin uses sustainable materials
  • Their part natural high-tech absorbent core lasts up to 12 hours for drier babies and happier mums and dads
  • Fewer chemicals than standard nappies are so your baby will only come into contact with the most gentle and natural materials
  • they have some cute animal prints on them

That sounds parfait, so let us tell you now what we think about them!

Kit & Kin Nappies Review – Le verdict

We received a free pack of Kit & Kin Nappies and Baba was fast to put them to the test. So what did we think about them?

The first impression was good. Both Baba and I loved the fox design. Baba is a strong boy so we received a pack of nappies in size 5. If you were to order you would have another print like a panda or a tiger for example.

I also found that les couches were much softer and more natural feeling to the touch.

Overall, we really liked the nappies:

  • They are easy to put on
  • The design is cute
  • It’s soft to touch
  • Approved by dermatologists, Baba’s skin remained dry and soft for a long time
  • We didn’t have any leak
  • I also love the idea that they are sustainable

At a retail price of £9.99, it might seem a bit expensive for some parents, but the website offers a 25% to first buyers.

As I said before, we both really liked them and would recommend them to other parents.

If Baba is happy, then Frenchie Mummy aussi!

Having said that, it’s a shame the brand doesn’t offer an extra size 6 on their range. Even though Baba stayed dry when we used the Kit & Kin nappies, I like when les couches are covering a lot my baby’s bum. I think the size 5 we tried will soon be too small and we will not be able to carry on using Kit & Kit nappies.

But maybe one day, the brand will extend their range and also offer nappies for big walkers like Baba?
