Bonjour lecteurs! Do you want a special treat for Christmas? Staying in London but in a quirky and totally unique hotel? Are you a fan of colours and vibrant styles? I have just discovered a funky place in Shoreditch. Not only it will be delicious to your eyes, but it will also be fun. Fancy Being Kids at Mama Shelter London? Let’s do it!
Mama Shelter London
Mama Shelter London is part of a group of colourful hotels across Europe. Many of you told me you stayed at its branch in Paris East and it was worth a visit too! On the list!
But back to London for now!
Based in the East London area, the hotel is awaiting for you to have a very special stay.
Indeed, it is a massive black building from outside, but once you are in, it’s une autre histoire.
Mama Shelter London offers about 200 rooms with un concept simple: modern spaces with the essentials.
In other words, a series of shelters for adventurers who wants something fun.
Each room is equipped with the brand’s 5-star bedding (you can even buy a full bed Mama!). You also have a small but modern bathroom and a TV corner.
So that you feel at home! La différence? Tweety & Sylvester are hosting the party!
You have masks for you to dress up and pretend you are someone else for the night…
Our Arrival
Mama Shelter London’s entrance is quite something. Like you are attending a screening or a film festival.
With its red carpet style floor and its flashlights, you feel like you could be featured in the next Warner Bross production.
Inside, you get wowed by the bar/restaurant and its flamboyant décor.
We checked in and got a room on the basement floor. Once settled, we were ready to party!
The Atmosphere
The entire hotel is something out of a book or a movie.
With pop colours everywhere and many decorations to accentuate the whole attire, you are in for something différent.
Mama Shelter London is a bit eccentric, but also so energising.
You can hear the music from the bar while you wait to be served. Expect feeling a bit cooler than usual.
Our Room
We had a room with 3 beds, roomy and comfy!
The overall look is quite shy compared to the hotel’s ambience.
Take it this way. Your chambre is a shelter for you to relax, with its white wall and your own TV room. While the fun and the party are on the ground floor at the bar!
Mind you, you can have your own fun with the Tweety & Sylvester masks. Let me tell you that it did the trick for Stanley!
Le plus? A nice space with hangers for you to put all your stuff.
And so many mirrors! You are made to feel like une star de cinéma!
If you like a bit of attention, this can be quite fun…
Facilities
Bien sûr, we were quick to explore.
Being on the basement level, we were right to the karaoké rooms. But we did not hear a peep at night! I was expecting the room to be louder as the bar was buzzing on a Saturday night!
Enjoy the hip industrial east vibes. Mama Shelter London is made to be explored, with its numerous surprises and its colours.
It made me feel quite nostalgic of my old days in London when I was young and partying in town 🙂
Stanley loved the vibes, especially the arcade games all over the place!
Restaurant & Terrace
The restaurant is a mix of East London cool and French. With its chairs like in a Frenchie brasserie, I felt a bit at home.
Only, it was really ‘East London’ with the crowd. Many parties, but also families having drinks and food.
And oh boy! The menu did not disappoint!
Mama’s restaurant was délicieux! The homemade food is encore very Frenchie. With a cocktail or two for me…
We enjoyed some baked ratatouille (as you do in a place full of French vibes!) and some charred hispi cabbage.
Full of colours and flavours! And we also got some desserts. You got to try the pain perdu if you stop by there.
My grandma used to make it as a treat. It’s a classic Frenchie sweet!
Le Petit-Déjeuner
Le petit-déjeuner the day after was as much fun.
On top of the classic croissant et pain au chocolat, I got a croque madame. Oh mon Dieu! I have not had one of those for years!
Basically, a croque monsieur (think hot sandwich with cheese and ham). Only with an egg on top of it.
Naughty moi? Maybe!
And we also ended up playing foosball. How cool is that!?
Once we were done, we hopped on a bus, direction Regent Street.
And we did a bit of shopping at Hamleys!
Mama Shelter London – Le Verdict
It was fun being like kids at Mama Shelter London.
I loved the full hip atmosphere of the place. The staff was lovely and eager to help anytime.
We literally felt like in another world. Our room was comfy and spacious for the 3 of us.
Plus, we loved the decor and the food. Top mark to the restaurant for mixing well some Frenchie attitudes with the local East London vibes.
Mama Shelter is truly a unique place and so family-friendly. Stanley had a blast and I rather enjoyed pretending to be a kid too!
We even watched Mary Poppins on TV in our room! Now if this is not a funky stay, I don’t know what else will do!
I look forward to discovering the other Mama Shelter hotels across Europe, especially the ones in Paris!
