Afternoon Tea at the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne

Bonjour lecteurs! Looking for some nice place to treat your maman on Mother’s Day? Look no further if you are based in the south-east! As you may know, we stayed in Eastbourne over half-term and to finish our trip en beauté, we got a sumptuous Afternoon Tea at the Grand Hotel. Baba and I love such a treat and for once, Grumpy Boyfriend was part of the fun! Regardez!

The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne

As I explained in my previous post on the Grand Hotel, this place is one of the most magnificent Victorian hotels on the coast.

Based on the seafront in Eastbourne, you can not miss the famous ‘White Palace‘.

The luxury 5-star seaside resort has it all for families to relax.

And to know that Debussy actually completed is symphony ‘La Mer’ there in 1905 is even more magical! Put on now the musical piece and get dreaming of a very spécial Afternoon Tea with us…

Champagne Afternoon Tea

The Afternoon Tea at the Grand Hotel is served in the great hall. The ambience is luxurious with its many paintings.

We sat by the fireplace and it added up a bit of wow to our experience.

With a traditional choice of teas and extra champagne, we were in for a treat.

First, we started with a pork & apple sausage roll ‘Grand’ Piccalilli.

Baba took care of mine as il adore sausage rolls… I can not personally say what it tasted like as he had mine. But it was gone within minutes. So I reckon it was excellent ?

The sandwiches’ selection included the following:

  • Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese & Chive
  • Egg Mayonnaise with Watercress
  • Chicken & Tarragon Mayonnaise
  • Cucumber with Cream cheese

You can, bien sûr also order a vegetarian version. Grumpy Boyfriend selected it and he really enjoyed it too.

To complete our experience, we then degusted a freshly made traditional tea pastry selection as well as the traditional scones with confiture and some Cornish Clotted Cream.

Junior Afternoon Tea

To make the experience as family-friendly as possible, the Grand Hotel also offers a Junior Afternoon Tea that Baba had the pleasure to test for you.

It started with a huge chocolate milkshake. You can also go for fraise or vanille si vous préférez.

You can then choose your sandwich from the kids’ selection: Chocolate Spread, Ham, Strawberry Jam, Egg Mayonnaise or Cheese & Marmite.

All accompanied by his own cake and jelly to finish.

What makes the Junior Afternoon Tea utterly sweet is that it is served on its own cake stand, just like the adults!

Afternoon Tea at the Grand Hotel – Le Verdict

Our Afternoon Tea at the Grand Hotel was somehow grandiose.

The décor in the great hall is truly impressive. You can enjoy the paintings on the ceiling and relax in the comfy armchairs by the fireplace.

En plus, the service from all the staff was impressive. We did not have once to ask for their attention and they made sure we were having a lovely time.

The food was unquestionable délicieuse.

And to make it even better, the entire room is very spacious so that Baba could play with his cars without disturbing other guests.

The Champagne Afternoon Tea is £37 per person while the Junior version is £14.50 per child. So price-wise, it is very good, especially if you compare it to other 5-star hotels in London.

Once more, it is a succés from the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne.

If you are in the area for Mother’s Day, treat your maman to such an experience in this stunning location. Or if you don’t fancy tea, the hotel also offers a selection of beauty treatments at its spa.

When was the last time you enjoyed an Afternoon Tea? What is the best gourmet experience you’ve ever had?

Children should be included in afternoon tea or meals at posh places like this hotel as part of their experiences of growing up. I think it also supports parents’ guidance on good manners, restaurante etiquette and dressing appropriately for the occasion.

I have never been to Eastbourne but always wanted too. I love old seaside towns (I live in one) and the afternoon tea looks like art. This is also amazing that they offer a junior version.
