Bonjour lecteurs! We might not live in London anymore, but I am still a Londoner. C’est juste une place magique and there is so much to do all year round. I love its energy and I can’t ever imagine moving from la capitale. There are so many iconic locations to visit like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and so much more. It’s a global city and while London may be most well-known for its rich history, cultural attractions, and shopping hubs, it’s also home to many wonderful spaces to enjoy with children. It is beaming with family-friendly activities for you to explore together. Fancy trying something different? Here are 6 Creative Activities With Kids in London.
Get Creative in The Young V&A Museum
The V&A Museum is my absolute fav in town and its younger version is also pretty epic!
Both galleries should be on every family’s bucket list. We went to the Young V&A last year and it was bursting with colours and fun activities for kids.
Once you get in the beautiful building, you get to explore a wide collection of childhood toys that spans generations. Stanley had an absolute blast and I must say that I felt très nostalgique when I saw so many of my old cherished toys.
It’s so interactive and fun for kids too. It’s very imaginative and fun to visit. It does not feel like you are in a musée and the café has a lovely space too.
Try to go to one of its temporary exhibits. They had a cool exhibition about anime and manga and it was epic! It’s probably one of the most exciting museum to visit with kids.
Visit the London Zoo
If your little ones are animals lovers, or you just fancy a good day out in nature, stop by the London Zoo.
Personnellement, I just love walking through Regent Park to reach the magical location. It’s an established place to go to for locals and tourists alike since it first opened to the public in 1847.
Even better, the zoo is also the oldest scientific zoo in the world. It’s home to many breeding programs and global conservation initiatives. So it’s a great experience éducationnelle for children to learn more about wildlife and humanitarian efforts to preserve biodiversity.
Stanley has always been obsessed with the penguins section there, but j’adore the butterflies bit. From monkeys to tigers, there are so many animals that your child can see with their own eyes up close.
En plus, the zoo also has a wide range of interactive activities for kids to keep busy. It’s a full day out. From meerkat feeding to giraffe food preparation activities, kids can have hands-on fun in a safe and fun environment at the zoo.
Go to a Painting Class
Do you have un petit artiste in your home? Then, take them to one of London’s iconic painting classes, such as Paint Classes London with Pinot & Picasso. This interactive activity is a fun way for kids and families to spend a quiet afternoon in the city in the cool area of Shoreditch.
They can just let their imagination wild and have fun while expressing their feelings. Everyone’s welcome, from beginners to seasoned artists. Come, collaborate, and paint within the walls of these studios.
Kids get to experiment with colours, techniques, and brushes that best express their artistic vision. They can paint to their heart’s content in these spaces, helping them develop their artistic abilities and have fun while doing so.
Even better, you can keep your création! Who does not like an handmade masterpiece to display at home?
Visit The Local Markets
There is so much more than museums to explore in London. Take yesterday par exemple, we were in Covent Garden, so I took Stanley to the fameux Covent Garden Market. It’s truly une place historique that is way more than posh shops and lots of tourists.
Or go to more local markets. Turn it into l’excuse parfaite to practise their financial literacy.
Give them a budget for them to shop among the local delicacies, vintage treasures, art pieces, and handmade crafts.
These markets are full of independent craftsman and local farmers that each have their own unique story. Plus it’s such a sweet way to spend the afternoon together.
Borough Market is famous for its gastronomy scene and Camden Market is legendary for housing creative goods and street art. But I also love walking around Greenwich. It’s such a beautiful area to explore too.
Stroll Around London’s Gardens & Parks
Another good 6 activity to do with kids in London? Go and stop by its numerous gardens and parks.
It’s one of the beauty in London. We love Hyde Park ; Stanley just love climbing trees and admiring the squirrels and other animals there.
Perhaps the most famous park in all of London, c’est parfait for kids to explore and have fun. Stop by the Princess Diana Memorial Playground and its iconic pirate ship. For older kids, you may enjoy strolling the Serpentine Lake and feeding the ducks along the waterside.
We also love Regent’s Park; plus the Queen Mary’s Gardens are gorgeous during peak season. Besides housing a diverse array of flora, this park has many hidden pathways that you and your kid can enjoy strolling through aimlessly.
There are so many other places in London; the choice is yours!
Watch a Play
Fancy getting them off their tablets and screens? Then, book to watch a live play in local theatres instead. London has a big love for theatrical tradition. These productions are great alternatives to digital media as stories are brought to life through a visual spectacle of song and performance.
There are so many iconic productions to see. Stanley really enjoyed The Lion King for his birthday.
But I also love the Shakespeare Globe by the Thames. They have a lovely selection of shows all year round and you can’t make more British than this!
