Should You Keep Your Home Insurance?

Bonjour lecteurs! The property market is now starting to slow down after being overheated for the last few years. In my most recent post on Instagram, many of you said you were hoping to get on the property ladder in 2023. Well, a house comes with some costs. We bought ours five years ago. And as soon as we moved in, we also decided to invest in home insurance. Have you not considered it yet? Should You Keep Your Home Insurance?

Cost of Living

Do you have life insurance?

We opted for one with our bank as soon as we moved into our new place.

As parents, it was primordial for us to have one. Simplement to protect our family, may anything happen to our house. So that we have a roof over our heads. And also to offer a safe environment to our child.

Should You Cancel Your Home Insurance?

As the cost of living is going higher each day (and not ready to drop anytime soon…), many of us will be thinking about ways to reduce our expenses.

Are you off to cancel insurance?

In a recent YouGov survey, 30% said home insurance was too expensive nowadays.

Even 61% of respondents have not made a claim before! Pretty scary figures in my opinion!

Invest In Your Home

Like many other parents, our house was not only a home for a famille, but also an investment.

So c’est important to cover our assets and protect what we have.

Whatever we decide to do in a few years’ time (stay here and upgrade it or sell for a bigger place) we want to keep it in shape so that the house doesn’t lose its value.

So for us, having home insurance gives us peace of mind.

It Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive

Getting home insurance doesn’t have to get expensive. You can use price comparison websites to see what are the best offres in place.

Many people will make their final choice based on the price of the insurance and the qualité of cover. It’s like life insurance.

It’s easy to avoid paying more than you need when you do some simple recherche.

Ours covers serious damages, fire, and that kind of things.

The Level Of Coverage

Before you purchase home insurance, think about what you need. Most policies will not cover everything.

Read carefully all the small prints before you sign up. Avoid bad surprises!

When Storm Eunice hit the UK, we got beaucoup de problèmes in our garden.

And we needed to replace all our fences on one side, especially as we did not want our bunnies to run away ?

But our policy did not cover it (I think it is quite common in the country) and therefore, we had to pay it all out of our pockets.

Does Everyone Need Home Contents Insurance?

Another bonne question to consider is… Do you need home contents insurance?

Again, it’s a choix personnel depending on what you have in your house.

Working from home is now quite common. Freelancers who work for themselves or even employees will have the equipment they will want to get covered for.

So you should take into account what you will need to cover.

Should You Keep Your Home Insurance?

Home insurance policies generally cover destruction and damage to your interior and exterior.

For exemple, we recently had a pipe burst in our bathroom that caused a leak in our living room.

Thanks to our home insurance, the cost was covered and it was one less worry on our list.

Cover Your Family

Depending on your policy, you can also get covered for loss or theft of possessions and/or personal liability for harm to others.

Crime is generally rising in the UK, so again, I would consider getting home insurance to have peace of mind. There is nothing worse than being a victim of theft. You feel violated and unsafe. At least, you don’t want an extra financial worry on your mind.

Should You Keep Your Home Insurance? For me, it’s an investment and security.

I think it’s the minimum I should do for our family and our son.

What are your thoughts on this?

Have you invested in home insurance yourself? Is that a choice you mainly made to provide for your family? What does your insurance cover?

I have home insurance and life insurance but not home content insurance. We live in block of flats which is pretty secure and we don’t own much valuable stuff so for us it wasn’t worth the cost.
