Simply think of all the unused space you may already have. I don’t know about you, but we used to live in a 2-bedroom flat in London and always felt we needed more room.

Fast forward 5 years, we now have a 4 bedrooms house and I still feel like we could do with some extra space for our vie de famille.

Both Grumpy Boyfriend and I have been working from home for a couple of years now and we both have an office.

C’est très simple and so convenient. We saved up a lot of money as we did not need to commute anymore to work.

Get Extra Storage

You can also easily get extra storage.

Something as simple as a porch could make such a différence. Not only it is more aesthetic, but it can give you more space to store many things: coats, shoes, wellies…

Or you can add up smaller pieces to your garden. Why not turn your shed into an extra room? Or build an outdoor play area for the kids? Mine would be my heaven where I would write with a good cup of tea.

Build A Gym

You could even consider building your own gym.

Like many others, I sometimes struggle to make it to my local gym just because I can’t be bothered to get there in the first place.

It can be so time-consuming with the increasing traffic in town. And, as a busy working parent, I already feel that I am running around everywhere and I never have time for anything.

I moved/bought/sold 4 times in 6 years, each time you move it costs a fortune in fees/costs and the stress is such a roller coaster. If you can extend or do a loft conversion or garden office I would recommend it above moving!

We used to live in 3 bedroom house in Hertford and was planning to extend the front to create a bigger living room and hallway. Sadly we realised that everything was too far away for us. Visiting our family, going to work every day by train became expensive and so we decided to moved back to London. It’s ridiculous how for double the price the house in Hertford, we’re living in a 2 bedroom flat, half the size in Greenwich. Most of the living room is taken up by the balcony that goes inwards. I wish we could extend our space because storage is becoming hard

Very interesting blog post. We extended our home some years ago and added on, what we call the summer room, it’s not a conservatory (we had one of those an it was cold in winter and hot in the summer) but an extra room with windows all round.

I’d love to extend our home, just too pricey to do it! But I would, if I could ♥

My dream house would be a little cottage in a remote part of Cornwall by the sea! Instead we are in a terraced house in Devon, so not too bad!
My husband is a carpenter and so many people are choosing to extend at the moment instead of moving, I guess the economic climate is changing peoples mind on moving at the moment.

We have just changed our French doors to some with much thinner frames like those in your photo above and it feels like an extension !
