A Guide On How To Take The Kids to Disney World in Florida

Bonjour lecteurs! Over the last few days, I put together a couple of travel posts to inspire you to discover new places. I am dreaming of locations such as Kefalonia or the Lake District. But another one high on my list is Disney World in Florida. Have you ever been? It’s supposed to be amazing and it is the one to see once in a lifetime. We have been many times to Disneyland Paris as it is so close to ma famille. But I fancy checking out its American compatriot one day. Here is for you a Guide On How To Take The Kids to Disney World in Florida.

Package Holidays To Disney World

You might be surprised to know that some travel agents actually specialise in trips to the magic kingdom.

Oui, it is a thing, and looking around, it might be une bonne option for you to go that way, especially if you are a busy working parent and you don’t really know where to start.

There are so many all in Disney World packages online with very competitive prices.

Your agent can even work out a personalised trip depending on what you and your famille prefer. C’est simple and so quick!

How To Get There

If you decide to plan your trip to Disney World in Florida on your own, finding the cheapest flights can also be done in a few clicks.

I recommend looking at comparison sites well in advance and even talking to friends who have already been.

You need to work out your budget as soon as you plan your trip and stick to it. There will be extra costs so sometimes getting a flights + hotel formula might be cheaper.

Decide on how long you want to stay there and book your flights and hotel ASAP, even a year ahead.

Some of my friends booked their flights months ago. It was also a nice way to have something to look forward to in the diary.

Find Out What Your Kids Want To See

Here is a fun fact for you, Disney World is actually more than 5 times bigger than Disneyland Paris to give you une idée.

I know it sounds énorme! There are so many characters, movies, universes… It’s very unlikely you will get to see and explore it all.

So it’s worth doing un peu de recherche and actually, discuss with your children what they really want to see.

Make a rough plan of the must-see and do in their opinion. I am personnellement not bothered about the Star Wars rides. But Both Grumpy Boyfriend and Stanley would not miss it for a heartbeat!

Download The Disney App

Opinions vary about how easy the Disney App is to navigate. I would therefore download it prior to your trip and get used to it.

En plus, it will put you in the right mood for your future vacation.

It includes all sorts of info that can make your trip smoother and therefore more fun. You can find out things like ride wait times, interactive maps of the parks, where to order food…

So it’s pretty easy to get ready.

Look At Disney Maps Before You Go

As I previously said, Disney World in Florida is huge! It’s over 30 000 acres after all!

So I would look online at Disney Maps beforehand.

If you are like me a bit of a planner, having a visual aid of the actual park will help you prepare.

You can even plan a route for each day of your visit so that you don’t end up walking around endlessly. Don’t waste time that you could spend on rides. Queues are likely to be long for the most popular rollercoasters so you want a good schedule for you to make the most of it.

Watch Youtube Videos

I would also watch YouTube videos of other parents and see their experience of Disney World in Florida.

Not only it will give you a sense of what the place feels like, but the content creators are also more likely to give you extra tips that are not on the official websites.

It can also give you une idée of how popular are each ride so that you can kind of work out how long it will take you etc.

I also feel watching YouTube videos from other parents can help you choose the right ones for your child. You can see in real-time the reaction of other children. Par exemple, I already know that the Haunted Mansion would not be un bon choix for Stanley.

There are also many FB groups where fans discuss their best tips to enjoy the park. Mes préférés are Disney and Orlando for Brits and Disney World Tips and Tricks. Walt Disney World Tips and Tricks is also a big one with over 1 million users!

Have a nose and see what other customers make of it.

What To Pack With You

Only you know your children, so pack according to the needs of your family.

Do you want to bring your own stroller? It might be easier to rent one there as it could be an extra thing to carry and transport during your plane journey etc.

You also want to take a backpack with you and grab some snacks. I personnellement try to avoid buying too many snacks in the park itself.

Trips like that always end up being a bit more pricey than you expect so you want to avoid spending too much.

Are your children a bit older? Let them carry their own bag so they will need to pack what they really need and no extra. You also deserve a break and you don’t want to end up holding everyone’s stuff!

Dinners & Hotel

Depending on how long you will stay in Disney World in Florida, find out and book si possible the restaurants where you want to eat.

It’s very likely to get busy quickly, especially in the Summer. When we went to Disneyland Paris a few years ago, we waited for over half an hour once for some burgers and chips as it was so busy. It was not fun.

As for your hotel, you will need to take into account extra charges such as a taxi if you are staying way out of the park.

I like the idée of a hotel with a pool so that you can relax after a long day exploring and walking around. But stick to your budget and see what works for you.

Bring Some Pocket Money!

So many rides exit straight into gift shops, and the temptation to buy souvenirs will be huge.

A good way to stick to your budget and also make children responsible is to purchase Disney gift cards before your trip. This way, you have a limit.

Bringing your own snacks and water will also help you save up. Each park features water refill stations so that you can spend your money on souvenirs. Don’t overbuy, you will have to come back with them and you don’t want to exceed your luggage allowance on the way back 🙂

we took ours there when they were about 8 & 11 we found it to be absolutely exhausting, having to get up by 6am to get there for when the park opened, standing in queues all day in the heat, sometimes the dream is different to the reality, glad we did it but never again, we like to relax on holiday

Really good tips. You learn so much from Youtube videos on any holiday destination. I do love how technology now allows us to carry a map of a resort with is 24/7 because so many times I lose my map and I feel lost and stranded. Using it to make a plan of where you want to go beforehand is such a great idea. You can be so much more productive that way.

I have yet to take my kids to Disneyland Paris. We’ll do that first before going to Disney World.

Done both a couple of times, prefer Florida due to increased number of parks to visit (Including non Disney eg Universal Studios), better weather, cheaper food & souvenirs and the outlets shopping Mall complex
