The Wisteria Hotel In Oakham
The Wisteria Hotel is a beautiful family hotel in Rutland, in the heart of East Midlands.
Located in the historic market town of Oakham, it was quite a drive from Kent, but so worth it!
The hotel has recently been redecorated, so I was eager to check it out. Especially as the establishment is independently owned and it is a family business.
You can be sure to be charmed in this utterly unique place!
The beautiful property, which even includes a cottage dating back to 1604 has been extended over the years.
But with its 25 bedrooms, all equipped with en-suite facilities, the Wisteria Hotel is more than a cute accommodation!
En effet, it is absolutely charming, and the place will provide you and your family with all the comfort you need without paying a crazy price!
Our Arrival
Located on the town main road, it was super easy to find the Wisteria Hotel. You can park at the back, just by the town museum.
Once we were parked, we came in via the one-way system.
As soon as you arrive via the patio, you can feel relaxed. The reception is well decorated and the tone is set straight away.
A Family Room
We were quick to settle into our family room. Beautifully decorated, la chambre was also quite spacious.
I immediately fell in love with le décor. The owners have done a remarquable job with the recent £150k refurbishment of the hotel.
We had plenty of space for the three of us.
The bathroom was traditional, but lovely too. I had plenty of space for my toiletries.
With a TV to entertain Baba if needed, we were quickly at ease.
Ambience
We ordered some drinks to enjoy in our room. The staff was lovely and very efficient.
Top mark for the view of the town. I was eager to discover it.
But si vous préférez, you can enjoy a drink at the back of the hotel. Surrounded by flowers, the terrace is lovely and quiet.
Dinner At The Hunters Bar & Kitchen
We also got to enjoy some dinner at the Hunters Bar & Kitchen.
I must say that I absolutely loved it! Not only the food was lovely, but the decor was magical.
Indeed, it has many original features from the 17th century and you really feel like you are back in time.
I don’t know about you, but it is totally my kind of place. No way you will find something like that anywhere else. It is truly unique.
The service was parfait too. Our dinner was a real treat and it was very intimate.
The food was délicieuse! I enjoyed some salmon for starter and pasta with goat cheese for main. Le rêve!
And Grumpy Boyfriend ordered the fish as always.
En plus, the kid’s menu is great too! Very good portion!
Breakfast
We ended up having a quick evening stroll into the town.
And once more, it was magical. We had a very good night sleep and despite our room being on the main road, it was very quiet.
We got to enjoy our breakfast back in the beautiful restaurant. What a treat!
With individual packs or céréales, you can also order some cooked breakfast.
This is what anyone visiting England would dream of! You get to enjoy the real British experience in a place like the Wisteria Hotel.
Oakham
Being curious, we decided to have a walk around Oakham.
The town market has everything to offer: independent shops, a lot of historical monuments to visit and some large playgrounds.
It was like being back on a TV show I used to watch as a student when I was learning English! ?
Oakham is so charming! We just took it all in and we had such a relaxing time!
The Wisteria Hotel In Oakham – Le Verdict
If you like traditional accommodations that are also utterly quirky with their decor, the Wisteria Hotel in Oakham is your place.
It is basically a very charming boutique hotel that prides itself of its local history.
The area and the hotel are both delightful.
I must admit that I like a bit of flash and ‘oh la la‘ when we book a place, but staying at the Wisteria Hotel was a real eye-opener.
Mid-range hotels such as this one make a great family option too!
And the staff was particularly pleasant and helpful! You can see they are proud of the location heritage and eager to inform you about the local gems.
Well done to Chris and his team for making us feel so safe and welcome!
We had such a lovely time! And for a night at £95, it is very well priced too.
Especially the Restaurant!
Top mark to the restaurant! Its homemade food was amazing and the service was impeccable in the historic settings!
