Bonjour lecteurs! Name one big city in the UK outside London that seems quintessentially British to you? Being a French maman, I am always so excited to see new places with the boys. We went to Cambridge last weekend and I was so looking forward to checking out this fameuse location where many films and TV shows have been filmed over the years. C’est un classique! We’ve been there back in 2018 and it was time to return! On top of exploring the city, we had a beautiful Family Stay At The Cambridge Belfry.
The Cambrideg Belfry
Situated 15 min away from the centre ville of the world-famous student city, The Cambridge Belfry makes un bon choix if you stop by in the area.
With its 120 modern bedrooms and its spa facilities, it’s la place parfaite for you to enjoy a family staycation in the heart of Cambridgeshire.
Surrounded by greenery with views on a lake and an outdoor terrace, it has it all to please for petits et grands! Mamans can chill in the jacuzzi while children have a swim. And papas will certainly enjoy a drink or two at the bar while watching some sport.
L’Arrivée
We checked in after 6pm as we decided to visit Cambridge first. The hotel was easy to find, just a short drive away from the centre.
After a warm welcome and a few photos by the Christmas tree (statutory), we explored a bit.
The Belfry Cambridge is clearly THE PLACE to be in the area. It was busy with many people enjoying a drink in the lounge.
Our Junior Suite
We were quick to check in and what a spacious room! We got a Junior Suite and Stanley was certainement impressed to have his own little bedroom.
It would usually be a living-room with a sofa, but a bed was made up pour l’occasion.
The complimentary bar was loaded with juice and wines, so we decided to relax in our room after a busy day!
The main bedroom was comfy and clean. Everything was practical with lots of storage and a family bathroom too!
Now that’s what I call a comfy stay! The hotel knows how to put its guests at ease and you even have some fluffy bathrobes at your disposition may you want to make the most of the spa facilities.
Spa Facilities
It was too nice to miss this opportunité, so we jumped right in and had a swim in the pool.
You can also indulge into a treatment from the spa if you want to relax and leave the children with your other half.
The pool only allows children at certain times, so you can also escape the family duties if you fancy some ‘me time’.
We took it in turn with Grumpy Boyfriend so that I also made the most of the jacuzzi, the steam room and the sauna. It was so relaxing while Stanley practised his swimming.
The Cambridge Belfry has it all for you to have a fab time with (or without!) your famille.
Food
After such a busy and exciting day, we were ready to eat. The Bridge Restaurant is clearly a popular choice locally.
The restaurant was packed! I ordered a goat cheese salad for starter before enjoying the risotto while Grumpy Boyfriend got the fish.
Big thumbs up to the kids’ menu. It was also un succés with a pizza and some really yummy donuts with extra chocolate sauce s’il-vous-plaît!
We made the most of the activity pack with colouring, jokes and other puzzles before going back to our room.
Overall, the food was truly délicieuse but the service was a bit slow. Bear in mind if you book your stay at the weekend.
After a good sleep in our comfy room, we made it back to pool after indulging in some yummy petit-déjeuner. Au menu, pain au chocolat but also some fruit. Sweet or savoury, whatever you fancy, you will have it all at the Cambridge Belfry.
Exploring Cambridge & More
In terms of activities, you obviously have a un grand choix. You can make it to the iconic city of Cambridge.
We obviously walked around King’s College Chapel, looking at the punters, stopping by the Mathematical Bridge and all the little boutiques in the historic city centre.
Despite the cold, it was very busy and I must say it took a bit of the fun away. No doubt there are many beautiful spots, but it loses a bit its charms with the crowd. Parking is really difficile too.
If you want to explore further out of Cambridge and do something in nature, I totally recommend Wimpole Estate.
The National Trust site is absolutely gorgeous and it was even plus spécial with all the Christmas decorations.
Take the numerous trees around the house par exemple, they were just magnificent.
We did some crafts, walked around the 3 acres of parkland and you can even see some pigs in the farm section.
That was beautiful! We loved it and I am so happy we stopped by with our National Art Pass despite the rain!

It’s such a great location with a short drive from Cambridge. And we certainly loved the spa facilities and the yummy food.
The pool was particularly great as the weather was miserable on Sunday and we could not do much outside.
Grab a drink at the bar or relax in your room with some TV on et voilà! Plus, there are many family-friendly sites nearby for you to have fun too.
