The Potting Shed In Maidstone
The Potting Shed is one of the beautiful Elite Pubs. The chain, based in Kent has 9 gastropubs all over the county.
We usually love eating at the Pig & Sty, so we were really looking forward to staying in Maidstone.
Indeed, le pub offers six uniquely themed bedrooms in this immersive eco-haven. It is such a beautiful country retreat with living roofs & solar-powered energy.
And bien sûr, you can enjoy some locally sourced food in the shabby chic restaurant.
En plus, it is only 6 minutes drive from the fameux Leeds Castle. So it makes a great alternative to a traditional hotel if you are seeing le château with your family.
Let me show you!
Our Arrival
We arrived in the late afternoon after having been to Mote Park in Maidstone.
As soon as we checked in, I was very impressed with the room. Spacious and decorated with style, it is very eco friendly because of its special features.
The decor is really quirky and you feel like you are in a chalet!
The Potting Shed has 6 rooms in total, made of lodges on the side of the back garden.
It has a real cosy atmosphere but it is spacious!
Our ‘Bochy’ Room
Our ‘Bochy’ room was made of the main bedroom and a lounge area. Baba got the sofa bed there and he had plenty of space for himself!
He was well at ease as soon as we arrived.
I expected something way smaller for the price! The standard bed and breakfast rates are £80 mid-week and £95 at the weekends.
The place is truly beautiful and the en-suite is nothing like I have seen before!
I loved les petits détails like the orange throw on the bed and the mirror.
And we also had a big flat-screen to watch TV! We could log in to Netflix to relax a bit before dinner.
The WIFI was good and quick to secure. So a great start!
Dinner At The Pub
We are very familiar to dining at Elite Pubs. Our dinner at the Potting Shed did not disappoint.
I started with some halloumi fries while Grumpy Boyfriend enjoyed some spicy squids.
And for the main, I ordered a pizza. And some seabass filet for him!
The food was delicious and the service quite good despite a busy evening!
The kids’ menu is also super large. Baba got some garlic bread that was the size of a mini pizza!
Atmosphere And More
Portions are very generous overall and we enjoyed some desserts with some local ice-cream. J’adore restaurants like this because they are also supporting local farms.
And if you visit the area for the first time, you can also enjoy a taste of what Kent has best to offer! A bit of cultural cooking is always a big point!
The garden pub was busy and the crowd was generally younger. Many were there to enjoy some drinks.
But the atmosphere was still family-friendly. All staff were wearing a mask and the pub was using a one-way system to keep safe.
The play area is officially closed at the minute, but there was still some part open and Baba had some playtime in the jardin.
Breakfast at The Potting Shed
After a comfy night, we also got to enjoy some breakfast. This time, we had food inside and it was quite busy!
Many locals came to enjoy some of the fabulous restaurant’s petit déjeuner. It is clearly a popular spot.
If you fancy such glam (and yummy!) pancakes, I recommend you book a table.
Many families were present and we had a bit more of a run in the back garden.
The Potting Shed – Le Verdict
If you visit Leeds Castle or even Canterbury, The Potting Shed makes a great alternative to a more traditional hotel.
Even if the B&B is busier in the evenings, it was still family-friendly. We left the pub before 9 pm but I slept like a baby.
Not too much noise while other guests enjoyed their drinks.
Each room is very original and so spacious, you have plenty of space for your family.
J’adore that the Potting Shed is eco-aware and deliciously decorated. I believe there is no air conditioning, but we were provided with a fan.
Internet was fast and easy to connect to. Having such a large room made a big difference with a top mark for the generous en-suite bathroom.
The room was très distinguée!
The staff is on hands to help you and we had a lovely stay!
We hope that Elite Pubs get to add some rooms to their other places! I would definitely book a night!
