Bonjour lecteurs? Do you like quaint pubs with beautiful décor? Fancy a charming family break in Kent this summer? I Love discovering new locations for families to enjoy in the area. We dined at The Leicester Arms In Penshurst last year as we made it to the Weald Of Kent Country Show and I immédiatement knew that I wanted to stay there. Parfait! We made it back this year for the Bank Holiday Weekend and had such a Dreamy Stay At The Leicester Arms. If you like tranquilité and the charms of an old British Inn, this is your place.
The Leicester Arms Inn
The Leicester Arms has been at the heart of Penshurst village for several centuries. Its histoire started in the 16th century, nothing else!
Once part of the Penshurst Estate, the Leicester Arms is a pub and restaurant locally loved and acclaimed for its delicious food and beautiful décor.
But the traditional inn is way more than a restaurant. With over 10 rooms with luxurious bedding and all le comfort moderne, c’est la place parfaite for a relaxing retreat in the country.
L’Arrivée
We made it back to the Leicester Arms in Penshurst after a fun day at the Weald of Kent Country Show 2025.
Bear in mind if you want to check it out next year, it books up quickly during the Bank Holiday Weekend. But we got lucky and got a room on the Sunday night.
The weather might have been a bit grumpy (quelle surprise!) but the colourful umbrellas set the tone. The inn has it all to please: sit down by the fireplace and relax with a drink in the elegant settings.
It’s welcoming and the historic bits mix well with les touches modernes. C’est chic and quintessentially British! J’adore!
L’Atmosphère
The ensemble is quite charming and cosy with des touches féminines, yet you still get the classic vibes of the English pub.
Inside looks a bit like a Victorian house with a mix of beautiful wallpapers and a collection of frames that send you back right into time.
The Leicester Arms in Penshurst offers all that you would expect from a beautiful inn. You can see its role in the village. Locals mix with visitors who made it the fair on that day. It was busy, but welcoming.
All we wanted to do was so snug in a comfy chair with a good glass of wine while relaxing.
The Cobnut Suite
But we were quick to check out out room. And what a treat! Our Cobnut Suite was absolutely divine.
The family room felt elegant and luxurious with its super-king sized bed and all the facilities for you to feel at ease.
Stanley loved the sofa bed where we would sleep and I feel in love with the copper bath and the beautiful bathroom.
Are those green tiles très chic?! I want un style similaire in our own bathroom…
It was pure bliss to be on the top floor among all the vintage furniture. We really felt like we were back in time and yet, les touches modernes such as the Nespresso machine and the TV mixed so well together.
Don’t even get me started on the view! We could see the meadow behind the pub. We even spotted a dear walking around in the morning.
Our room was pure bliss with a touch of luxury. Everything is made for you to feel comfy with style.
Walk in Penshurst
We headed to le restaurant for a copious roast dinner. What else on a cloudy and moody Sunday when you are in the countryside?! It’s like being in a movie.
Wake me up before I met Mr Darcy… Plus sérieusement though, as it was still early, so we decided to explore le village.
Direction Penshurst Place. It might have been close by then but we still had a beautiful time walking around some historic building in the area and the estate.
While I dreamed gazing at the old rectory, he was gathering all the best sticks to take home. Must have accessory for a 9 years-old to go for a spontaneous country walk!
We also met two horses who were eager to know us. Sadly, we did not have any carrots, but they paused for the camera and we enjoyed the wisteria. What a beautiful evening!
Le Petit-Déjeuner
What a lovely sleep in that massive bed! We headed back to le restaurant for a yummy petit-déjeuner. How beautiful are my poached eggs on toast with mushroom?
We basically never have cooked breakfast at home and it was a real treat to enjoy this among the beautiful décor while looking at the meadow.
The boys enjoyed a full English each and it was délicieux! I might have stolen some bacon and beans…
Once all fed, we had an hour or so before check out. So we enjoyed a relaxing soak in the copper bath tube.
We had to try to write une honnête review, so it was a must… It was bliss; I put a meditation track on and relaxed among the bubbles while looking at the meadow outside. Now this was pure luxury!
The Leicester Arms in Penshurst – Le Verdict
We had dreamy Stay At The Leicester Arms in Penshurst. We were very impressed when we dined there last year and this recent experience did not disappoint.
Our room was absolutely gorgeous and it felt so welcoming while being très chic.
We came home relaxed and dreaming of a life in a village like that. J’adore a local inn that has been through times, remaining a stapple in the area. The Leicester Arms in Penshurst has it all for you to enjoy a relaxing staycation in Kent.
Don’t forget to pack your boots to explore the area. Bien sûr, you can stop by Penshurst Palace, but you are also a short drive from iconic places like Hever Castle and Chartwell. Both locations are part of the British History, a but like The Leicester Arms in Penshurst!
It was the perfect family break to explore a new area.
