Start With a Family Breakfast

What would your ideal breakfast look like? I think Stanley would have pancakes and I would choose poached eggs. Whatever is your jam, cook it together. Once all done, set a pretty table and enjoy a slow start to the day.

Preparing food together as a family changes an ordinary morning into something special. L’autre plus?  Cooking with kids teach them practical skills while creating opportunities for conversation without the usual rush.

Allow everyone to contribute meaningfully, whatever they can achieve at their age. The key to succés is to choose simple recipes that encourage participation. Par exemple, pancakes with various toppings or a build-your-own toast station will work wonderfully.

Set the table with seasonal flowers, colourful placemats or even add some hand-drawn name cards for that extra petite touche.

Plant Something New

Once everyone has their tummy full, why not go outdoors and enjoy Nature? You could even plant something new in your garden.

A tree, herbs or flowers become a living reminder of the day. Gardening with children offers therapeutic benefits and teaches patience whilst creating tangible connections to natural cycles.

Choose plants that grow relatively quickly, like sunflowers that reach impressive heights within months. You can also choose herbs like basil and mint. Such a beautiful immediate sensory reward for the little ones!

Planting a tree marks the occasion more permanently and you will remember that moment for years to come. Even if you don’t have a big garden, you can always get some potted plants you can keep on the window edge or on the balcony.

Take a Campervan Road Trip

Do you have an adventurous family? Explore somewhere new, enjoy the freedom of the open road and make shared memories.

Spring time is perfect for campervan adventures without summer’s crowds. Planning an adequate campervan insurance guarantees peace of mind whilst exploring a new area. I have very fond memories of going in the campervan with my grandparents. I just remember laughing all night in my sleeping bag with my siblings and walking into the stream with my silver jelly sandals!

Get the children involved by giving them even the simpler tasks like setting up camp chairs or choosing the next destination. Grandparents can join the fun too! Multi-generational breaks are the best!

Craft Together

We all know that the weather can be unpredictable in the UK. If you can’t go out and explore, a good crafting session can also work. It’s a great way to bond together.

Scrapbooks, painted pots or photo boards capture the moment. Plus, I don’t know about you but I always find it so satisfying to craft and be creative with the children.

You can producing keepsakes that you will cherish for years. Scrapbook the day’s events with ticket stubs, pressed flowers and handwritten captions. It’s better than a digital album and everyone’s personality will shine through! No need to create the perfect piece of art!

Messy handprints and creative interpretations often become the most treasured elements.

End With a Family Walk

You know how much I cherish my morning walks.

I love to include Stanley in my adventures. The truth is, it might be less peaceful, but it’s a beautiful way to catch up and talk together.

Even just going for a local walk will lead conversations to develop naturally whilst providing exercise . So it’s a win-win for all the family! As soon as spring arrives, we love walking in the woods, looking at bluebells or even observing the fauna and flora.

Point out seasonal changes like budding trees or returning birds, teaching children observation skills. That’s the cheapest day out ever and if it’s really lovely out there, you can even pack a little picnic.

International Day of Families is the perfect way to reconnect together. Save the day in your diary and spend it with your family.
