Once you’ve got that figured out, you won’t look back and you will want to make the most of that precious downtime with your tribe.
Gardening
Gardening is un hobby fantastique to start with your kids. Not only will it help them develop a sense of patience, but it will also help them disconnect from their tablets and other devices.
After all, it’s no secret that everyone’s dopamine balance is seriously compromised by using a lot new technologies. So let’s go out in the garden!
En plus, regularly experiencing nature has been shown to be extremely beneficial for our mental health. So what are you waiting for? Summertime is the best moment to start a new project in your garden.
Get some gloves on and enjoy some outdoors fun with your little ones.
Board Games & Puzzles
I used to love playing board games and puzzles with ma famille all the time!
I loved playing cards late during the summer holidays. It was so exciting to go to bed later than usual too and play by the light of a candle.
Plus, board games and puzzles are so cheap and nowadays, there is truly a huge variety of new board games on the market.
Or you can go for some classiques like Monopoly or chess and drafts. Try some free version online if you want to check it out before buying a board. Great way to work your brains too!
Playing Sports
Starting a new sport together is one of the easiest hobbies to go for.
At the minute, Stanley is obsessed with badminton and golf, so we are playing as often as possible. Plus c’est l’excuse parfaite to maintain physical health and fitness.
Another benefit in participating in sports with your children? They will develop a strong sense of discipline as well as the concepts of commitment and fairness towards others and it helps them with their social skills.
What would you rather them do? Being glued on their tablets or play football at the park? It does not even have to be compliqué, you can go on a hike in the woods, run on the beach, go cycling or scooting.
DIY Projects
Kids like having adult-like responsibility once in a while, and this is something you should encourage them as you discover things to do together. Why not find some DIY projects around the house for them to take part?
Keeping safety in mind, bien sûr, you can get the children involved in some little jobs around the house. Last week par exemple, I got Stanley to help painting our bunnies’ hutch. Or you can get them to paint a wall? It’s such une activité différente and they will get so much pleasure and pride out of it!
Or you could have them help you build a flat-pack piece of furniture. Once again, problem-solving skills also come into play then.
Stargazing
OMG! I loved doing that as a kid and I think I need to do some stargazing with Stanley soon.
It’s probably the most exciting hobby on my list to bond with your children. It doesn’t have to cost anything, and I am sure both of us could learn a bit doing so.
Turn your garden into the perfect spot, with a blanket and some cushions on the floor et voilà! Plus, looking at the sky is ever so relaxing!
C’est très simple to get started! There are many apps on the market. All you have to do is making yourself comfortable with some snacks and get ready to learn some new facts.
Learning a Musical Instrument
Are you musical? Many studies have proven that learning an instrument has many cognitive benefits.
It’s also a great way to express créativité and children end up spending less time on their electronic devices!
Grumpy Boyfriend is an excellent keyboard player. He’s been teaching Stanley for a couple of months and it’s so lovely to see the progrès he made! If you are not much a musicien yourself, check out YouTube for beginner tutorials. There is something for all levels!

Cooking is a fundamental life skill to teach your children. I absolutely LOVED baking and cooking with my mum at the weekends.
En plus, it’s an incredibly valuable skill to teach them for adulthood. It can be so much fun and it does not cost much!

But you can also find many free recipes for you to test with your children on BBC. And you can enjoy your créations délicieuses together afterwards!

They are so many options when it’s about model building! One of the most obvious choices to go for is a Lego set. The brand has greatly expanded its range over the years, and today, there’s a set for everything! Stanley absolutely loves LEGO!
It’s so nice to see him expressing his imagination. He is currently building a city called Twenty Ville. When I help him with his project, I find it very relaxing too.
Or you can go for proper military models that you assemble and paint etc. My brother used to love those! You can never get bored of model building, Plus, you get so much satisfaction once your création est finie.
