Bonjour lecteurs! If you are looking for a day out in Kent, Hever Castle is a classic location in the area. We have been many times as it offers so many activities for Baba to have fun: a play area, a maze. Et bien sûr, le fameux château! But did you know that 5 min drive down the road, you can also have some lunch at The Waterside Bar, Restaurant & Terrace? Located within the Hever Castle Golf Club, le restaurant offers some really good food. Plus a beautiful space for you to dream!
The Waterside Bar, Restaurant & Terrace
Next time you visit Hever Castle, make sure to stop by the Waterside Bar, Restaurant & Terrace and enjoy some food in the beautiful country setting.
With its large garden and terrace, you are in for some relaxing time.
A Rainy Lunch
Easy to find, carry on Hever Road and the restaurant is adjacent to Hever Golf Club. But no need to be a member to enjoy a meal there!
There is a large free car park and we were in for a rainy lunch.
The staff greeted us at the entrance. Nicely decorated, we got a large table for 4 as I was catching up with a friend. The lunch menu offers all the classics you would find in a country pub such as burgers but also sandwiches.
The Food
I got a burger while Grumpy Boyfriend enjoyed some fishcakes.
The service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious. Portions were generous.
And the kids’ menu was un succés too as Baba had one of his favourites: fish fingers and chips!
Look at that plate! That is what I call un déjeuner de champion!
Ambience & Atmosphere
Despite the weather, the restaurant was quite busy and other families were enjoying their food.
You can even book an Afternoon Tea if you have a celebration.
The decor of The Waterside Bar, Restaurant & Terrace is somehow country chic. We observed the fireplace.
It was cosy and family-friendly while the other side of the building is more like a bar for golfers to relax after a match or two.
Outdoors Facilities & More
But the gem of the restaurant is truly its terrace. It is really big and I can imagine it to be lovely on a sunny day!
It would be so relaxing to enjoy a glass of wine by the water. And you are surrounded by nature, which is very charming!
Another thing that might seduce you is the social distancing measures in place. I know that many prioritise safety when it is about eating out now. And I think that the Waterside Restaurant has it covered!
Each table was far enough from each other. There is a very clear one-way system in place and all staff were wearing a mask or a visor.
A Quick Visit To Hever Castle
As we were in the area, we had a quick stop at Hever Castle & Gardens. It was obviously not very busy so we parked right opposite the entrance.
Baba enjoyed a bit the play area.
You can still visit the castle but be prepared to queue to enjoy this trésor anglais. Indeed, due to new rules, there is a system of bubbles in place for people to visit the château.
So we enjoyed an ice-cream instead!
The day we visited, it was a 40 min queue to get in. But if it is a one-off trip, you can not miss it!
Also, be aware you will have to wait to enjoy a 30 minutes slot or so in other popular spots such as the maze and the play area.
But Hever Castle has so much to offer all year round I am sure you can always find something to do!
There are always some events such as jousting and even an outdoor cinema!
The Waterside Bar, Restaurant & Terrace – Le Verdict
We have been to Hever Castle & Gardens many times as we have some family in the area. And it always makes a great family day out.
But I was not aware of the possibilité to eat at The Waterside Bar, Restaurant & Terrace.
I am so happy we discovered it! The premises are really charming and the food was nice.
Stop by the Golf Club and enjoy some food with your famille after a day of magical adventures at the romantic 13th-century castle.
Disclosure: With thanks to The Waterside Bar, Restaurant & Terrace for inviting us free of charge. Please, note that photos from the castle are from previous visits. Visit our highlight ‘Hever Castle’ on Instagram for more footage in action.

What a lovely place to go I’d happily visit it I lived nearer. The food looks delicious Lovely photo’s too
Not a place I have visited, as yet. Certainly looks worthwhile visiting if / when we get the opportunity. “Grumpy”, my fiancé tends to be Grumpy when he is tired (I’ve discovered). Food looks good, I think I would choose the fish cakes.

Haha mine is usually Grumpy when it is about social media and my obsession of taking pictures. But he is getting better with it now 🙂
