Why Laser Eye Surgery Really Isn’t That Scary

Bonjour lecteurs! Tired of the annual eye checkup? Or do you fancy not wearing contact lenses or glasses anymore? I’ve been wearing contact lenses for over 20 years now. They’ve been the easiest option, as I am myopic. But I am thinking about getting laser eye surgery. A friend of mine did it, and she said it was life-changing. Have you been considering it too? I’ve been looking into it, and laser eye surgery really isn’t that scary.

A Standard Procedure

I reckon most people don’t go through with having laser eye surgery because they are worried it might hurt.

Personnellement, I don’t like l’idée of having something so close to my eyes… I must admit that it freaks me out a bit.

But I looked into it, and laser eye surgery is a pretty standard procedure. Even better, it is totally pain-free.

The surgeon will first apply topical anaesthetic eye drops. This way, the surface is numb, and you don’t feel a thing during l’opération. You should feel no pain at all. If anything, it feels more like a strange sensation, a bit like a mild pressure on the eye. But it does not hurt.

Fast Treatment

Standard eye laser surgery should take no more than 30 minutes for both eyes. The actual laser work is only about 10 to 20 seconds per eye!

La raison why is it so quick and efficient? The surgeon uses modern laser platforms with high-speed computer trackers. The electronic device monitors even the tiniest eye movements in real time. It automatically pauses or adjusts if you shift or blink.

There are no needles involved. So the risk of permanent damage is extremely low. Scared of being blind? The risk is non-existent, too!

No needles, so no stitches either, which means that you should have a speedy recovery.

What To Expect In Recovery

If the recovery period worries you more, be reassured it should also be straightforward.

You might have some mild post-op discomfort. Par exemple, you might experience temporary stinging or itching in the next 24 hours. But it should fade quite rapidly. After the operation, you can use numbing drops to help with the healing.

Some people might encounter dryness. You might also feel some sensitivity to light. Those are pretty common symptoms after laser eye surgery. But you can get a prescription for drops.

Le plus important is that you should feel some changes pretty much straightaway. Many patients wake up the next morning with significantly clearer vision.

Are You Ready?

Most people would love to have la chance to have their vision corrected. Not needing glasses and contact lenses is really appealing. So if you have l’opportunité (and the budget!) to get laser eye surgery, go for it.

It might sound like a frightening operation. But laser eye surgery really isn’t that scary. If anything, it will improve your life so much. You will wake up une personne différente. Let me know in the comments if you took the plunge and how it improved your life.
