Managing Noise Matters

We know it is all time to party and local councils will probably receive complaints about excessive disturbances at the end of the year.

Like many others, I am all about the fun, but I also feel that it’s important to remain considerate of neighbours. So we always adhere to local guidelines around noise levels.

Plus, you can easily use some techniques to minimise the sound.

Use Furniture & Soft Furnishings

Hard surfaces tend to reflect sound. So if you add soft materials, it can limit the noise.

Lay some rugs on any hardwood or tiled floors and it will absorb the noise. You can also use cushions and throws to lower any echoes.

Une autre bonne idée would be to move furniture strategically. Par exemple, move your bookshelves and other furniture against the wall, especially if you live in a semi-detached house or in a flat.

Quick DIY Hacks

If you don’t have double glazed windows, close your curtains or blinds as it will absorb any sound. You can also use draft excluders. Simply place them along the bottom of doors to stop sound travelling to hallways or neighbouring flats.

I also love l’idée to create ‘quiet zones’ if you have a big gathering. If people want to chat and relax far away from the musique, it will help lower the decibels.

To Take Into Considerations

No doubt there will be lots of musique when you party, but you must control the volume so that you don’t disturb others.

Par exemple, a smaller sound system can deliver great sound without excessive volume. Or use the clever settings of your speaker features.

I would lower it down, especially after 10pm. Do all the dancing and partying earlier in the evening.

And if you really want to have a blast until very late, why not inviting your neighbours? If they join in the fun, you will not disturb them. It’s also a bonne idée to leave a note a few days before so that they are aware. Plus, it shows that you are considerate 🙂

After Midnight

We don’t usually leave it late, but like many others we will be partying after midnight during the festive season.

If you plan to have loud music after 10pm, and maybe even some outdoor fireworks, keep it as brief as possible. Try to limit people shouting or have an alternative indoors location so that you disturb the area as little as possible.

Why not even have a silent disco? Those are super populaires and so much fun! Even iconic places like the Natural History Museum have them! Plus the headphones usually have LED lights that glow in different colours so it can also be visual. Your party will certainly be unique!

Et voilà! Just like that, you can have fun with your loved-ones without getting into any conflicts with your neighbours. Thanks to a few hacks, you can reduce noise from parties so that everyone keeps happy. Have fun over the festive season.
