How To Choose The Right Winter Coat For You

Bonjour lecteurs! Who is excited about the AW2022 collections and all the lovely fashion bits you will get? I have literally cleared up my wardrobe and stored my summer clothes this weekend. My cardigans and jumpers are folded and ready to be worn. What pieces are you going to buy? A good winter coat is a must for the season. So let me give you some idées on How To Choose The Right Winter Coat.

A Winter Coat Is A Fashion Investment

Your winter coat will probably end up being the most expensive fashion piece you will buy this winter.

Over the years, I have purchased a couple of women’s Ted Baker jackets because I know they would last me several years.

And I love un peu de couleurs! Like many other women, I used to go for a black coat, thinking it will go with all my outfits.

Not Always Black!

But to be honnête, I have been more adventurous with my fashion choices over the last few years.

Next time you use public transport, do this simple test.

Count how many people are actually wearing a black coat, and you will easily find out that over 80% do.

Boring! So, I have worked on a palette of colours for me to wear. This way, I stand out from the crowd. A bit of a diva moi?

A Complimentary Colour For Your Complexion

It’s ok if you still want to go for a black one. But if like moi, you decide to be more adventurous, select a couleur that will compliment your natural complexion.

As I am quite pale, I usually go for a cold shade like blue or pink. Even better, it also works with my wardrobe as I tend to wear a lot of those couleurs.

The chicest shade would probably be beige, and it works with so many styles.

Choose According It To Your Lifestyle

Secondly, think about your lifestyle and what style will fit better around it.

If you are a city girl, then go for an elegant and timeless statement piece. J’adore a tailored coat to go with my dress and a pair of boots.

A cashmere or wood blend coat will always do the trick.

More of an adventurer in the country? Then a puffer, a parka, or a waxed jacket will be yours. So that you stay cosy and warm.

The One For Your Body Shape

Like with a dress or a pair of trousers, work out what cut will fit your body shape well.

Don’t follow the trends if they don’t look good on you. There is no point fighting against your figure and buying something expensive you will never wear.

Par exemple. as I am curvy, I always love a coat with a belt as it accentuates my curves and makes my waist looks smaller.

I avoid straight-cut coats as they make me look bigger and shorter.

In the shop, try on coats and see how they look from the front, the side, and the back.

Baby, I Am Cold!

Simple, yet très important, it’s also worth thinking about the fabric.

After all, it needs to keep you warm without being too hot.

I usually go for a wool coat because it keeps me warm without making me feel bulky.

And Stick To Your Budget

Last but not least, stick to your budget! Some would say to go for the maximum you can afford.

I say, you can always go for a bargain. Maybe it’s worth shopping in the sales or in outlet stores so that you get a great qualité coat without breaking the bank.

Bear in mind that your coat will be the first thing that people notice about you and first impressions count. And as I said, if you get it right, it will be an investment that will pay off.

After all, there is nothing better than turning heads and feeling gorgeous, no matter what the weather!

My winter coat is pretty old now….it’s weird as it’s padded on the body part but the arms have no padding!

I always try to buy the best I can afford on my budget. Cheap coats often look just that and rarely last.

I love your dark rose one. It’s hard to choose a new coat as they are quite pricey. Mine is boring black!

I love your pink coat. I think I need to be a bit braver with winter colours as my winter coats all tend to be black!

I am really fussy about the material as I cannot stand wool type ones next to my neck as they itch me, so I tend to go for padded anorak style, non itchy. Also mine have to be longer than my hips as I have a tummy to hide. I cannot have very long coats as I am in a wheelchair and they would catch in the wheels. I love trench coat style in the 80’s I had a gorgeous dusty pink one and I LOVED it!

The problem with the Uk is that we have more than one winter and by that, I mean we have a few weeks of very cold maybe snowy winter, many weeks of wet winter, and a number of days of very windy winter. Each weather type needs a different coat, and we also need coats that work while driving and coats that work while walking. Woolen type coats are excellent at keeping warm, but a damp rained on wooly coat in a car can lead to excessive misting requiring repeated cleaning of the windscreen and windows. We either need 4 or 5 coats or some boffin to come up with a reconfigurable coat preferably with voice control – ‘Alexa make my coat suitable for cold snow … ‘

The light pink one? It’s from Mint Velvet. And the dark one is from Ted Baker.

My current winter coat is red, but I have had it for a few years. I also have a dark purple coat which I call my funeral coat which is when I wear it. I would like something light, cream maybe although I do love your pink coat
