Bonjour lecteurs! I hope you had a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend? It was a busy one for us! Indeed, we dropped Baba at Nanny S. on Saturday and we had a good night out in London! After picking him up on Sunday, we stopped by for some Family Fun at Hever Castle & Gardens. The place is famous for being Anne Boleyn’s childhood home, but Hever Castle & Gardens has so much to offer! Make it a day out in Kent if you are in the area!
Hever Castle & Gardens – Un peu d’Histoire...
Situated in the heart of Kent just next to Edenbridge, Hever Castle & Gardens is a romantic double-moated 13th-century castle that you may have seen in many movies!
With over 700 years of history, it is one of the most loved and visited places in the area of Sevenoaks.
The place is huge with over 125 acres of grounds and beautiful gardens!
And if you fancy un peu d’histoire, have a look at the castle. It was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and Mother of Elizabeth I.
A Drink With A View By The Lake
We arrived a little bit after 12 pm and as it was a sunny Bank Holiday Weekend. No surprise that Hever Castle & Gardens was very busy! However, there is so much space, it never felt crowded while we were there!
Having parked at the back of the castle, we started with a drink with a view of the lake.
If you fancy, you can even discover the lake at your own pace with a rowing boat or a pedalo. It was so peaceful!
And to even make it more exciting, there was some jousting tournament on the ground as well as actors walking around.
The whole thing was made so that you could feel like in the old days and actors kindly posed for some photos!
Enjoying the Gardens
To start slowly and savour the day, we then went for a walk around the numerous gardens! My fave has to be the Italian Garden with its Pergola Walk. With the gorgeous weather we had, it was lovely to walk along with the antiquities & the beautiful flowers.
Because there is so much space, kids can run around and it is all safe.
You can even bring a picnic and settle down for some time on the grounds. It is truly a stunning setting!
So Many Activities & More
And to keep busy, there is always something on at Hever Castle & Gardens.
On that day, we could witness some jousting but we also saw some crews teaching kids how to be knights.
The atmosphere was so family-friendly and there was truly something for all ages to have fun!
Grumpy Boyfriend stopped by some local beers producer stand while I had a look at some vintage decorations.
Kids Entertainment
So much to do! But to be fair, Baba was very eager to show us his castle! Indeed, Hever Castle & Gardens also features a lovely playground for little ones.
With Acorn Dell, a play area composed of a 2-metre high living willow structure, a giant sandpit & a grassy mound, Baba kept busy there for a little bit!
En plus, there are also some tree tunnels, a climbing frame and a slide bien sûr!
Acorn Dell
The Frenchie Baba knows well the place as he has been many times there with Nanny S. and he was so happy to show me around like it was his own chateau 🙂
The place is so realistic with sounds too (just press a button and you can hear the fire crackle par exemple!). It was like being back in the days of Henry VIII and other royals!
To be fair, I think I could be used to the life of a princess…
Yew Maze & Water Maze
The place also offers a ‘classic’ Yew Maze for you to get lost and have a little adventure.
But as it was so hot, we spent most of the time in the Water Maze! Another fab feature of Hever Castle & Gardens. It was so nice to walk along with it and go up the mini-tower while getting a bit of water too.
Surrounded by trees, the rest of the family could rest in the shade while I was running after a half-naked Baba 🙂
Oh, joy! We truly made some lovely memories there!
Hever Castle & Gardens – Le Verdict

Oui! There is a stage and the place offer many events with live music, theatre and much more!
Fancy pretending to be a princess? You can even stay overnight at the Bed & Breakfast. There are 28 stunning bedrooms in the Astor Wing & the Anne Boleyn Wing for you to dream!
Or get married there! Imagine the pictures you would get in such a charming venue!
It is up to you! Either way, you will make some magic memories at Hever Castle & Gardens! It is an astonishing attraction for a family day out in Kent!
