Bonjour lecteurs! Are you excited for the new sales coming up this week with the big Black Friday offers? I have litéralement sorted out my wardrobe yesterday and packed all my summer bits away. I am pretty much sorted with cashmere jumpers and dresses but I reckon I would need a new coat this year. If you are also looking for some great outwear, here are for you some things to bear in mind when you choose the perfect winter coat to keep for years.
Invest In Quality Over Quantity
Your winter coat will probably end up being the most expensive fashion piece will buy this winter.
So go for a versatile outwear that will last you for as long as possible. Personnellement, je préfère paying a bit more and have a coat that will last me longer.
I have been obsessed with a wool beige coat since last year. I got it in the sales and it feels so élégant. The cut is just parfait and I always get so many compliments. J’adore!
Leather & Suede
Un autre bon style? I would also invest in some women’s leather jackets. They are often timeless and very versatile. Plus un bon cuir (leather) will keep you warm for years!
I also adore l’idée of a suede coat. Now, it might not be the easiest outwear piece to look after (especially in the rain), but c’est très chic.
Plus suede accessories are back in fashion this year! I’ve recently got a super cute bucket bag in a light brown that I adore.
But I might invest in chocolate suede coat. I had one like that as a teen and it was so easy to style with my wardrobe.
Think Colours!
I know that a black winter coat sounds like la solution parfaite as it will match with any outfit.
But be adventurous and go for une couleur différente! Black is so boring and you certainly want to stand out from the crowd, non?
I love my pink teddy coat. I’ve had it for years and it works very well with my wardrobe. Look at the colour palette of your clothes and choose accordingly to it. A baby blue coat will look très féminin while a red option will be so smart!
If you still want something a bit plus classique, opt for a brown or navy option. It’s close to black and will go with many fashion pieces. Or go for an animal print like this leopard trench.
Outdoors Style
On top of your ‘everyday coat’, I would invest in a parka for casual days.
I am nothing without mine as I like going for walks every day. It keeps me warm and c’est très simple!
For the school run, I don’t need to look fancy, so I just throw it on top of my leggings and a sweater et voilà!
Think About Your Body Shape
You should also consider your body shape before you choose the perfect winter coat. Like with a dress or a pair of trousers, work out what cut will fit your body shape well.
I know it’s sometimes tempting to follow the trends and get the must-have fashion pieces, but only do so if it’s really flattering on you.
Personnellement, boxy fits don’t tend to work well on me as I am quite small and curvy.
So I go for defined lines and coats with a belt. It really goes well on my body. Plus, it’s more me for un look féminin.
Stick To Your Budget
Last but not least, stick to your budget! Some would say to go for the maximum you can afford.
I say, you can always go for a bargain. Maybe it’s worth shopping in the sales or in outlet stores so that you get a great qualité coat without breaking the bank.
Bear in mind that your coat will be the first thing that people notice about you and first impressions count. And as I said, if you get it right, it will be an investment that will pay off.
After all, there is nothing better than turning heads and feeling gorgeous, no matter what the weather!
