Bonjour lecteurs! Are you planning your first family ski trip soon? It can be easy to get caught up in the logistics, and you might forget some important gear for you to enjoy your trip. To save you time, I have compiled 10 Skiing Essentials For Your First Family Ski Trip. No more stress, having to think about it all. It’s just there for you, and you can be sure to have fun on the slopes.
A Reliable Helmet
A ski helmet is an absolute non-negotiable, especially with kids. An accident can happen, even on beginner runs. So it should be the first item to pack.
Go for a helmet with adjustable vents for comfort, clips to keep your goggles secure, and soft padding for a snug fit.
Usually, ski resorts have helmets to rent. But they can be of lower qualité and it can be difficile to find the one that fits right.
A Warm Ski Jacket
A ski jacket that is waterproof, windproof and padded is key. Look for something that has a lot of pockets. C’est parfait for keeping all your stuff while you ski.
Personnellement, I like ski jackets that come with extra features like ski-pass sleeves, snow skirts to stop any powder getting in.
If you’re bringing kids along, bring a bright jacket that has a fun print on it to help you spot them on busy slopes.
Ski Goggles
Like google swimming in the water, they are a must-have, especially as a beginner. Ski goggles will protect your eyes from the sun and the snow, making the experience far more enjoyable. Plus, it gives you a better vision overall.
Get a pair with anti fog lenses and adjustable straps to make sure they fit securely over a helmet.
Ski Trousers
Ski trousers (AKA salopettes) are an absolute essential to staying warm whilst in the snow. They are designed to keep the snow out and lock the warmth in, with an added bonus of some additional padding if you take a fall. Look for a pair with an adjustable waist to make sure you stay comfortable throughout the day.
If you’re teaching your kids how to ski, opt for a pair with reinforced knees. It will help when they tumble.
Ski Socks
Investing in a warm pair ski socks to keep comfy at all times.
They are warm and breathable but also cushioned in all the right spots to avoid any injuries or blisters from the ski boots.
Usually, you should go for 2 layers for added protection.
Face Cover
Feeling icy winds whip across your face is never enjoyable. Have a look for some skiing snoods to shield you from the cold. Plus, it’s a good way to be fashionable on the slopes…
Unlike scarves, snoods stay put and won’t unravel mid run. So c’est l’accessoire parfait to ski with style.
Insulated Gloves
Freezing hands can really ruin a day out in the snow. So add a pair of waterproof and insulated gloves to your outfit.
Go for a style with adjustable cuffs to make sure the snow stays out. If you are worried your children will lose them, pair with wrist straps will do the job.
A Warm Beanie
I love a cute beanie in winter. C’est parfait to keep cosy whilst exploring the resort. You could also wear this under your helmet for some added padding in a pinch.
Pick something fleece lined for extra comfort. For the kids, choose the right size and don’t go too big. Otherwise, it will keep slipping over their eyes.
A Thermal Base Layer
A thermal base layer is a saver in winter, whether you go skiing or not. We love our as they keep us warm while being comfy.
A cheaper option is a cotton top, but you can get sweaty in it, so I would avoid it.
A Backpack
Not sure it should be one of your skiing essentials for your first family sky trip? Think again! A good quality waterproof or ski backpack will be so handy to carry your day to day necessities or even extra snacks for the kids…
A lightweight but sturdy backpack means you can stay on top of any slope emergencies.
Happy Skiing!
Have fun during your first family sky trip. I recommend you check out the Alps. They’re such a great location to enjoy skiing together. But Courchevel or Méribel are pretty cool too…
