Bonjour lecteurs! Nowadays, looking (and feeling!) fabulous on a budget can be challenging. Like many other industries, fashion is becoming more expensive. But it’s doable with the right approach and some tricks. You know me, I like clothes and trends, so I have been practising the art for over 20 years now… And I have put together 6 simple ideas to look good on a budget, whatever your style!
Shop Smart
First stop, start by thinking carefully about your fav shopping locations. Are you shopping around and looking at options? Or do you tend to go to the same places?
Personnellement, I love shopping around and buying from différent retailers depending on what I am looking for. Bien sûr, we all love going to designer brand stores, but I would happily shop in charity shops and kilo sales too.
For beauté and grooming products, I always purchase things online as I can compare prices.
And usually for holiday bits, I tend to stick to shops on the high street as they might not be investment pieces.
Think Quality First
When I was younger, I would easily buy clothes every week. But now in my late 30s, I try to buy less and think about quality first.
I would rather invest in a more expensive piece of clothing than buying lots of cheap garments that will not last.
I absolutely LOVE Maje and Sandro. You can’t go wrong with those affordable luxury brands. They create timeless pieces that I will wear for years! But to get better deals, I shop at their outlets or on Vinted.
Think about how many times you will wear your piece. What’s better, a tee at £5 that you wear once or a blouse worth £50 that you will use hundreds of time?
Make Alterations
You don’t even have to buy brand new clothes! You can also look good on a budget by making various alterations to your clothing.
I am not really a whizz with the sewing kit, but my mum is fab and she can turn an item into something différent that will make me feel like a new woman!
Par exemple, you could experiment with changing the length of your trousers or turning an old pair into shorts for the summer. Or you could dye your fav dress with a home kit et voilà!
Build A Capsule Wardrobe
Le concept of building a capsule wardrobe has grown into popularité over the last few years.
It’s a great way to save up and you can still look good on a budget. Plus, it’s easier to get dressed and you are sustainable.
Choose between 5 and 12 garments that will provide you with all the outfits you need.
Reducing the size of your closet might not be your idée of fun, but it can be highly effective at reducing costs. It’s also a great way to control your spending habits.
Use Silver
Gold is a wonderful material, but it is more expensive. Therefore, choose women’s rings and bracelets made from silver. These are often less than a fifth of the price but nearly as resistant to tarnishing.
En plus, silver can look really flattering on your carnation.
You can even go for silver plated and vermeil items that reduce the price even further. They look as pretty too in my opinion.
Caring For Your Clothes
Last but not least, take care of your clothes to look good on a budget. Read carefully the care label and use the adequate washing cycles.
It’s here to help you preserve your fashion pieces as long as possible.
A good tip my mum passed on me? Hand wash anything that is delicate, especially your lingerie. In that department again, I always invest in good quality pieces such as Chantelle or Maison Lejaby.
So I want to conserve them as long as possible.
Looking good doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Determine your style, what pieces you want to invest in and experiment with your friends.
