So, last week, we stayed in A Shepherd’s Hut At The Merry Harriers. Off we went to Surrey to discover the Merry Harriers, looking forward to some relaxing time. Oh and to also meet with some cute llamas 🦙🙂
Plus, I have some exciting news! One of our lucky readers will win An Overnight Stay In A Shepherd’s Hut worth ÂŁ500! The giveaway will launch on my Instagram on Friday 25/08! So stay tuned!
The Merry Harriers
The Merry Harriers was originally a 16th Century Village Inn in the heart of Surrey, in a gorgeous village called Hambledon.
The pub has it all for you to relax in the country. Not only it offers some yummy food and great ales, but you can also stay there either in one of its shepherd’s huts or in a boutique room at the back of the pub.
And wait for it, there are even llamas to say ‘bonjour‘ too! No need to say that Stanley was extremely excited about this bit…
Our Arrival
As soon as we arrived, the tone was set. We parked right by the Sheperd’s Huts and we immediately fell in love with the location.
With 5 classic shepherd’s wagons around a small pond, we could see some horses in the fields nearby.
And we already spotted a public footpath for us to explore right next to our accommodation.
The first thing we did? We went to the pub bien sĂ»r! For a drink in the sunshine while Stanley was making the best of the swings. He had already spotted some cute llamas. But more about it later on…
Our Frenchie Sheperd’s Hut
If like moi, you love a bit of an adventure, but you also like your luxury, then staying In A Shepherd’s Hut At The Merry Harriers in Surrey must be next on your list!
Our Frenchie Sheperd’s Hut was absolutely gorgeous and spacious enough for the 3 of us.
Made of a main room with a double bed right by the window. We also had a little living room space with une petite table and 2 chairs as well as a kitchen area.
Adjacent to our main room was a bathroom with a modern shower.
Such a beautiful mix of classic and modern. The hygge-inspired accommodation is utterly gorgeous with some beautiful détails.
We fell in love with all the petites touches, from the print of the curtains to the cute llama-themed bits: pillows, ornaments, and even the mugs had some cute 🦙 on them!
And stepping outside, we had our own hot tub with 2 deck chairs to relax by the fire at night.
Parfait to reconnect with Nature!
Llama Meet & Greet
After settling in our Shepherd’s Hut, we made it back to the pub as we were booked to meet the llamas.
The Merry Harriers is home to 11 cute llamas. As we arrived with food, they literally ran towards us.
I must say it was quite impressive, but overall, all of them are used to being with humans and they are very gentle, especially Champagne.
He is clearly the most popular thanks to his cute lashes. We stayed among them for about half an hour, feeding them and patting them.
But you can also book a trek or go on a picnic with them! How fun and différent!
Stanley even got to give them some extra cuddles and even brush Champagne the following morning.
Now if it is not an expĂ©rience très spĂ©ciale… What is it?!
Dîner At The Merry Harriers
We were so lucky with the weather last week with some sunshine.
So before having dinner, we went for a walk in the country nearby the pub. The fresh air built up our appétit. Parfait before our dinner at the Merry Harriers.
The pub has it all to charm you with some classic British meals on the menu. For starters, we got some Mackerel Paté and Plum Tomato and Avocado Salad.
For main, Grumpy Boyfriend enjoyed some Seared Hake while I savoured a beautiful Classic Burger.
The kids’ Chicken Goujons & Chips went down like a treat as well as our desserts!
When there are some chocolate brownies sur la table, you can be sure the Frenchies are happy 🙂
Plus, I loved the inn. It’s like going back in time, looking at the long list of past owners. There is even a painting of what the Merry Harriers looked like back in the day!
L’Atmosphère
The food was what you would expect from a traditional English pub in the country.
And so was the atmosphere! It was great to dine in the back garden while the sun was still there.
You could see that the Merry Harriers is THE place to be seen in the area. We ate among a huge group of cyclists who make it their pit stop every Wednesday night. But also the bridge club who were meeting for dinner.
You can’t make more British than that!
And when we came back to our shepherd’s hut, the hot tub was ready! It takes a few hours for it to get warm but once it is on, it stays hot for quite a while! It was 43°C, so we did not go in on the first night but the following morning instead.
A Luxury Glamping Experience
Staying In A Shepherd’s Hut At The Merry Harriers in Surrey doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort!
Far from it! Indeed, each hut comes with all the amenities you need to make it a comfy and enjoyable stay: a flat screen with Netflix for you to catch up on your fave TV shows, a wood-burning stove to warm up on cold days, and even underfloor heating.
And bien sûr, you also get some yummy marshmallows to toast on the firepit. For a nuit parfaite under the stars!
We also loved going in the hot tub first thing in the morning before a délicieux petit-déjeuner, très British!
The hot tub cooled down overnight to reach 37°C. So I enjoyed a sort of spa experience while the boys went to feel Champagne & Co. Pure bliss!
Exploring the Surrey Hills
Another plus? The Merry Harriers is in the heart of Surrey. You can literally see the Surrey Hills from your shepherd’s hut.
It was so beautiful to be in nature. We really enjoyed our walks and being by the pond was so relaxing too.
Even better, you can visit many family-friendly places. We stopped by the Winkworth Arboretum for a walk, before stopping by the nearby town Godalming.
The 95 acres arboretum proved to be a succĂ©s with Stanley. He loved playing for hours in the fortress and walking by the pond, while j’ai prĂ©fĂ©rĂ©Â the boat house that was dreamy.

Originally, each shepherd’s hut is made for 2 people. However, it can easily accommodate up to 2 children.
We had a little bed for Stanley in our room, but I reckon you can pack some sleeping bags et voilĂ ! Let the adventure in Surrey starts!
Overall, we had a beautiful time and I could not recommend it more. En plus, meeting some cute llamas so close was quite extraordinaire for Stanley.
It’s just a beautiful mix of adventure with a hint of luxury. I mean drinking wine in a hot tub while looking at stars, eating marshmallows by the fire… Is there anything better than that?!
More importantly, all the staff was amazing! They made sure our stay was flawless from start to finish.
It’s clearly a popular place in the area.

I was literally researching this place yesterday when I saw it on your Instagram. Definitely one of the nicest glamping places I’ve seen and I love the llamas surrounding it. It’s so nice Stanley is exposed to the countryside so much at his age and is comfortable living in small hut. I can’t wait to take my kids glamping once our budget fits it. I think it is a great bonding experience. Having a hot tub in a glamping place would be a bonus too.
It looks amazing there, and the Shephers Hut looks surprisingly spacious!
This looks fab
