Family Sunday at the Royal Opera House

Bonjour lecteurs! If you are looking for new things to do in London with kids (or even on your own if you fancy a bit of music and more!), the Royal Opera House in the centre of Covent Garden offers regular events. Family Sundays are taking place every month for you to explore the premises as well as interact with the artists. As Baba turned 3 in January, we went to the monthly Family Sunday at the Royal Opera House.

Family Sundays

London offers many attractions for families, but if you have a true fan of ballet or opera, the next Family Sunday at the Royal Opera House must be on your list! For only £10 per person, you will have a chance to explore the magical place but also join in some fun creative activities with the little ones!

Walk around the place like it is yours 🙂 Well, almost!

Each event is different, according to a theme. We attended the one on the 27th of January and it was all about the Mad Hatter and its famous friends.

It makes a great space for children to have fun and learn while you can relax and enjoy live music!

The next Family Sunday at the Royal Opera House will take place in February with Romeo and Juliet in mind so make sure to book your tickets now.

Main Entrance Foyer

A ticket will give you access to the Royal Opera House. Now time to share with you our visit 🙂

After leaving our coats, we went to have a look at the workshops in the foyer. In there, you can meet the creative teams that help to make the magical decor and the sublime costumes for the shows.

It was really fascinating and there were so many of them! We spent quite a long time looking at the archery as Baba was very intrigué by the daggers. The team kindly let us try the weapons (they are not dangerous as it is all fake!).

Baba was eager to hold a weapon and see how it worked

Other workshops also included traditional hats and wigs. Kids could also try on some costumes.

There was something for everyone! Children could even make their own masks and other crafts!

1858 Entrance Foyer

After having a look at the history of the Royal Opera House, we also got to enjoy some music where you could learn how to conduct an orchestra with a very talented maestro. Let me tell you that there was some queue to try it out!

He also enjoyed some music before dancing for the audience!

But we simply enjoyed listening to some music in the gorgeous decor!

Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

Food & drinks are also available for you to enjoy and we had some lunch while listening to more music.

When you have your personal piano player for lunch…

When the très célèbre Mad Hatter arrived with Alice & Co! We were in for a treat with a live performance with further music and dancing for the little ones. No need to say that the crowd was delighted!

The crowd enjoyed some good company too!

And if you fancy, you can also stop by and try a Ballet Barre Workshop!

He loved the tea party

It was so full on! But it did not stop here!

So Much More To Do!

Ballet classes, family dance workshops, dressing up… It was full of activities and in the time we stayed at the Royal Opera House, we did not get bored a second! The atmosphere was so family friendly!

He even made a couple of friends joining him later on!

Both the artists and staff were very eager to introduce children to the world of ballet and opera.

It was also amazing to walk around the place, especially in the hall with its light!

The activities also got children involved!

We witnessed a bit of La Traviata and Baba even joined in!

What a great experience for him! He was truly amazed!

Le concept est fantastique! Baba is only 3 but even he truly enjoyed the experience! He discovered so much in one day and I must say that I had a great time too!

Back in the days… Before Baba when we were enjoying a more classical night at the Royal Opera House!

It a must-see in London, especially at such a price! It is different and it might even start a new passion for your children!

The hall is as stunning as in my memories!

Bravo and well done to the Mohn Westlake Foundation for supporting such a great initiative in collaboration with such an iconic place in London.
