Start with Sentimental Items

Your home is une reflection of your personality. So make it your own! Fill it with items and things that you love or whatever inspires you. Incorporating sentimental items like precious heirlooms and quirky keepsakes into your home’s décor gives your space some warmth.

Your home truly becomes yours. Plus, it’s such a fun way to give it an edge.

Use whatever works for you. Par exemple, I love 3D box frames with some pics from our holidays. It brings back such beautiful memories back, but it also makes me want to go to our next adventures together.

If you are more creative, why not make your own souvenir board with pieces like tickets, personal pictures and other souvenirs.

Memory jars are also a great way to display smaller knick-knacks while keeping your home neat and tidy.

Unique Wall Décor That Tells Your Story

Like many other homes, our house is painted in classique shades of white. We went for this colour as it felt easier to look after and it also brings so much light to all the rooms. However, we made our home more personal with artworks and frames that tell our story.

Whatever you go for, a bespoke canvas or a family portrait, wall décor can instantly change both the look and feel of a space.

Gallery walls are also très populaires. Indeed, they are a great way to display photos and keep loved ones near. Alternatively, you could create display postcards from all the locations you’ve visited, or showcase your child’s budding artwork.

Wall art huge at the moment. You can even for for something with more structure: tapestries, sculptures and handmade crafts. This way, your turn in to a story. If you want something plus classique, wall panelling is also une bonne idée.

The Right Light & Textures

The right furniture will also help you create a cosy atmosphere. Personnellement, I love a bit of pink and velvet. Even better together! You see the picture…

But no need to break the bank. Some soft throws and comfy blankets will do. Or even the right candle or rug can turn a space into something more personnel.

If you live in some neutral spaces such as new build homes, use this blank canvas to make it your own. Par exemple, switch up a colour Ischeme without the cost and inconvenience of redecorating, et voilà!

Beyond soft furnishings, lighting plays a huge role in setting the mood of your home. If it’s cosiness you’re looking for, go for layered lighting, including floor lamps, wall lights and table lamps. Dimmer switches are your best friends as you can adapt the intensité of the light as you wish.

To add extra texture to you home, add some houseplants. Not only they come with a range of health benefits, but they also add some texture to a room. This way, your home will feel cosier and more welcome.

Making your home more personal does not have to be a Chinese puzzle or a competition with home décor magazines… Simply add some touches personnelles and the right structures and you’re already there.
