Bonjour lecteurs! Are you back from your holiday abroad? Or do you just fancy a fabulous weekend in London with a historical twist? Then Greenwich is THE PLACE to visit this summer. The London’s most cinematic destination is such a gem in la capitale. It’s full of beautiful locations for the whole family to enjoy this summer. We love it there as there is such a lovely village feel to it. What are you waiting for? Experience an Unmissable Time in Greenwich this summer. There’s so much going on.
Experience an Unmissable Time In Greenwich
Greenwich has something to offer for the whole family. Are you a history fan? Then walk around the area and take it all in: The Queen’s House, The Painted Hall, The National Maritime Museum… Greenwich is THE spot to see, as it’s where many productions such as Napoléon and Bridgerton were filmed.
Or do you you prefer a walk around Greenwich Park before you end up the day at The Royal Observatory? There is so much to see! We spent last weekend there, and we packed as much as we could in the stunning settings. Here is our guide for you to experience an unmissable time in Greenwich.
Arrive in Greenwich With City Cruises
If you’re in London, the best way to get to Greenwich is to hop on a City Cruises boat. It’s quite an experience to enter this historical part of London this way.
Enjoy the views from the open-air upper deck while observing many London landmarks such as The London Eye, Tower Bridge and The Shard before arriving at Greenwich Pier.
Cruises run every half an hour and as soon as you approach land, you are in for a treat as you can see the stunning Old Royal Naval College and the fameux Cutty Sark.
Stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton London Greenwich
There are many hotels in the area, but this time around, we stopped at the DoubleTree by Hilton London Greenwich. It’s a bit outside Greenwich, but it’s only a 5-min walk from the DLR and it’s quite peaceful away from the crowd.
As we checked in, Stanley was greeted by a cheeky cookie! Now that’s what I call a good start. Pour l’occasion, we had a family room that was light and modern.
It was such a beautiful space for the 3 of us. With a sleek and modern design, our chambre had it all for us to be comfy. He loved having his own double bed right in front of la télévision and I adored the spacious bathroom where I could relax in the bath.
Top tip, go up on the 8th floor to see more of London from another perspective on the viewing deck. C’est très spécial as you can see Lewisham and a bit of Bromley. It also brought many memories as I used to work in those districts when I was a French assistant back in 2008.
Cutty Sark
Before heading back to the hotel, we walked around Greenwich and admired the sunrise, overlooking Canary Wharf. It was such a beautiful evening with the summer light.
Cutty Sark truly looked majestuous in the light. The boat is the last remaining tea clipper that you can explore. Back in her days, it was one of the fasted ships in the world. It was actually the first time I got to go inside in over 15 years and it was so interesting!
You get to learn all about what life was for the crew, but also the history of the ship and the Tea Trade in the UK.
If you are brave enough, you can even try a rig climb experience and see what it was like. But we stayed on board and Stanley had a go at the interactive exhibition.
The National Maritime Museum
We carried on our educational journey at The National Maritime Museum. We saw the Pirate Exhibition. Available until January 2026, the collection explores the perception of piracy in popular culture.
From Captain Hook to The Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, it shows that the history of pirating is plus complexe than you would think.
Par exemple, did you know that Jules Caesar was kidnapped by pirates?! He was held captive in Sicily and apparently, he laughed at the pirates when they ask a small ransom for his freedom…
I really recommend stopping by The All Hands Children’s Gallery on the top floor. It’s fun with naval reproductions.
Kids get to fire a canon or unload a cargo. That’s so cool!
The National Maritime Museum is huge! We had a look around but I feel that we need to go back and see more about the British Naval History. You can also sit by the trees with a picnic and take it all in.
Greenwich Market & More
Bien sûr once in the area, you need to stop by Greenwich Market. We love the food section with a selection of dishes from all around the world.
We enjoyed a lemonade in the shade of le marché and it was very relaxing. Or you can also order an ice-cream.
But my fav has to be the vintage market with its selection of antiques and collectables, further down the road. The last time we went, we came home with some old vintage cars and I got a new pair of earrings.
One of our fav hidden gem that tourists might not know is the playground on the North East corner of Greenwich Park.
Its’ quite something with its maritime theme. Be prepared to spend some time there! The kids will never want to leave…
Walk around Greenwich Park and embrace the vibes. It’s like being in a movie.
Et voilà! Here are my top activities to do in Greenwich. The place is a real buzz all year round. We also love it in the winter, going ice-skating by the Queen’s House. But you should definitely experience an unmissable time in Greenwich this summer. Explore all the famous Greenwich filming locations. Or just take it all in. You might be in the heart of London. But deep down, it looks like a beautiful village where you can relax and make more family memories together.
When was the last time you visited Greenwich? What was your favourite thing to do there?
