Bonjour lecteurs! Following on my IWD post I shared on Instagram last week, some of you asked me for books recommendations for busy mums who wants to feel empowered and inspired. I tend to read a lot of self-help books by kickass ladies in fact! So let me share with you 8 Must-Read Books For Women To Feel Inspired & Empowered! C’est parti!
Dream Life Journal – Kristina Karlsson
One of my favourite self-help books to read each year. Ideally, you should use it with Your Dream Life Starts Here. The author, more famously known for being the founder of the beautiful stationery brand Kikki K guides you step by step to work out what are your dreams and how to turn them into réalité. Packed with easy exercises to find out what inspires you, your values and how to set up smarts goals to meet those dreams, it is also beautiful. Plus many very inspiring quotes!
I actually met Kristina Karlsson back in 2019 and she is so kind and serene! I recommend reading it every year to help your annual review maybe? For more inspiration and motivation, join now the Facebook group or listen to her podcast too!
The Comparison Cure: How to be less ‘them’ and More You – Lucy Sheridan
Lucy Sheridan is officially the world’s first and only comparison coach. Another book with many exercises to make you think deeply about who you truly are. In a society where comparison is inevitable because of social media and a constant desire to succeed, you will discover that comparison is the thief of joy. And even if to some extent, it can be a motivator, you need to set boundaries to not be overwhelmed and feel like a failure. Time to gain some self-confidence and know yourself better ladies! It is what will bring you true happiness!
Ghosts – Dolly Alderton
Oui! A fiction but the Top 10 Sunday Times Bestseller is more than a well-written story! So why did I select this book? I really like Dolly Alderton. And bien sûr, I devoured Everything I know About Love. This might only be a story, but it actually made me think beaucoup about the personal ghosts in my life. Deep down, we all have some and they affect our lives daily! A thought to ponder to move on and be stronger!
The Power Rude Of Rude – Rebecca Reid
As soon as I listened to Rebecca Reid on an episode of BBC4 Women’s Hour, I knew I wanted to check out her book! You gotta love a bit of honesty! She truly speaks her mind and shows so well why women are constantly obsessed with being polite. Time to reclaim some balls, nothing less than that! J’adore her witty tone that actually tells the way things truly are, full stop!
Hype Yourself – Lucy Werner
Aimed more at small businesses with practical and step by step tips to get some good PR without spending a huge budget, I checked it out because I love Lucy Wern’s colourful Instagram feed. A very good read for my followers who are mums with small businesses. You will get loads of good idées to get more visible out there!
Playing Big: A Practical Guide For Brilliant Women Like You – Tara Mohr
Probably one of my fav expert in leadership. Tara describes so well how women tend to hold back and lack self-confidence.
Time to play big, encore! Literally! Turn off this inner-critic and regain some power. It is packed with many strategies to overcome your fears, whatever life is throwing at you. I also recommend downloading her free Inner Mentor Visualisation. Such a powerful exercise!
Why Social Media is Ruining Your Life – Katherine Ormerod
Social media and especially Instagram play such a big role in our life. I read it over the Summer holiday as I was questioning a lot my image and presence online. And actually, just a few weeks before The Social Dilemma Documentary exploded on Netflix.
I always thought I was aware of the dangers of social media. But the truth is that we are all more addicted than we think! Even when you imagine you have some kind of balance! The book is well documented and gives you a full picture of what it is really like. An eye-opener! Now more than ever, I am careful with what I share on my Instagram and I enjoy an occasional break from the squares for my own sanity without feeling guilty!
Failosophy: A Handbook For When Things Go Wrong – Elizabeth Day
Are you a perfectionist? Then this book is for you! Because failure has never been so beautiful and even powerful! Indeed, it makes who you are and learning from your mistakes is the best way to progress!
Easy to read, it reminded me that actually, the most meaningful success is to know ourselves. And not what the media and others would like us to think! A great read to put away some preconceptions and let go of that mum guilt! Or any other type of guilt for that matter!

Some great reads. Thanks for the recommendations.
I think I read far more when I was younger, before exams came along and certain texts were required reading. I think it was probably at University when I lost my love of reading just for pleasure. Then when I got my first job, with some challenging working hours,I just never seemed to have the time…
