Bonjour lecteurs! Are you already looking for plans over half-term? Or scheduling a mini-break at Christmas? Then, Scotland might be on the cards. I went there over 10 years ago to attend the fameux Hogmanay, but nothing since. As Grumpy Boyfriend wanted to visit one of his Scottish friends, we decided to book a last-minute week at Sauchope Links Holiday Park. Visiting Scotland with Largo Leisure was just fabuleux! We stayed in a stunning natural setting and it was just parfait to relax before going back to school.
Sauchope Links Holiday Park in Crail
Do you like l’idée of an adventure on the coast with your family? Then, you will love Sauchope Links Holiday Park in Crail.
Now admittedly, it was quite a trek all the way from Kent to go there. But the journey was worth it as we stayed right by the Fife Coastal Path very close to Saint Andrews where Prince Williams went to l’université.
The location truly offers a dreamy beachfront escape for your family. C’est parfait to reconnect with Nature. Plus, the park features all the facilities for you to have a tremendous time. Think heated pool right by la récéption, la possibilité to book an accommodation with a hot tube and also a cute little play ground for the little ones.
Sounds like a plan? Then follow along with this itinerary including cool places to check out.
Our Retreat Lodge
We arrived quite late at the park, but our welcome pack was ready, waiting for us. Eventually, we drove along the path to discover a beautiful glamping lodge right by the coast.
I mean, the lodge in itself was absolutely beautiful and once we got in, you were truly blown away.
While relaxing in the main living space made of une table and a sofa, we had the best view possible! It was quite magique to wake up in the morning and enjoy a cup of tea with such a perspective!
Our retreat lodge had it all to please with 2 bedrooms: la chambre principale with lots of storage spaces and a modern dressing table and another bedroom for the kids. Our accommodation was quite spacious and also pet-friendly if you want to come with your dog.
As for the cuisine, it was all-equipped for your comfort. It’s a plus that there was a dishwasher so that I could truly relax and not worry about extra chores.
What do you think? C’est très beau non?
Hot Tube With A View
But the cherry on top had to be the private hot tub that comes with the retreat lodge. Now, that’s what I call a luxurious stay in the Nature.
Even better, it was on, ready to go when we arrived on site after 6pm! The team put it on so that we could jump in right after a long journey from England.
It’s all in les petits détails with Largo Leisure. The team makes sure you are at ease at all times for a relaxing break.
God knows we make the most of it! We were in that hot tub in less than an hour and relaxed in it with a cheeky glass of wine.
Stanley loved playing in the water, but we also had a great time admiring the stars in the sky.
Even better, we could see a ferry with all its lights sailing tranquilly along the sea! And not to forget the Ile of May that you can also observe from your spot. It was pretty amazing to sit there in the hot tub while watching the Scottish world go by…
Exploring The Park
But it was not just all about farniente while visiting Scotland with Largo Leisure. You see, Sauchope Links Holiday Park in Crail is right by a coastal path, so there are so many places to explore.
The first day, we made it to the sea, picked up some shells and had a quick look at the park. But on another occasion, we walked further to see a bit more of Scotland.
You can even walk to Crail with some amazing views.
It was so peaceful and ever so magique when a bit of rain arrived followed by a double rainbow! I had not seen one of those for years!
We carried on the path, moving all the snails out of the way so that they would not get crashed by accident et voilà! Another day in Scotland was completed.
Edinburgh
Crail is about 1 hour and half from Edinburgh, but we still drove there once to show Stanley. It might have been a rainy one, but he certainly loved the old historical buildings and doing roly-polies by the Mound.
We also stopped by the Scottish National Gallery where the oil on canvas made une impression. I must say, Scottish people seem to be very proud of their culture and history. It’s quite refreshing compared to England.
Despite the weather, the city was busy with tourists, so we escaped the madness a bit further out of town. Direction the Roseate Hotel where we savoured a beautiful afternoon tea before carrying on our journey.
If you love a sweet treat within an historical setting, I recommend you stop by this boutique hotel full of charms not far from the city centre.
St Andrews
Another time, we decided to explore a location closer to Crail. So we drove to St Andrews. Au menu, a beautiful walk admiring its beautiful university.
But we also visited St Andrews Castle and learned more about the local area. Au programme, the catholic Bishop against the protestant preacher George Wishart but also the French invading Scotland! Argh, the French…
There is a little exhibition before you get to explore the ruins of the castle. But to make the most of it, get the free audio guide.
Enjoy the impressive views to the seaside and stop by the cathedral to discover more about the area.
We had some lunch in town before a cheeky ice cream.
Don’t forget to stop by the harbour.
Enjoy a bit of shopping there and don’t miss out the views from the Scores. Free parking as well, so not a bad place to start your adventure!
