How To Create a Cosy Sanctuary To Recharge

Bonjour lecteurs! Life feels like a whirlwind at the moment. Between school runs, mealtimes, and household chores, it can be exhausting to be a working mum. But c’est important to practise self-care. You need a sanctuary where you can pause, restore focus, and reconnect with yourself. What would you say is your favourite space to do so? I enjoy doing so in my bedroom while meditating or taking a walk in the countryside. It’s one of my morning routines that sets me right for the day. Have you yet created your own little oasis where you can escape from time to time? Here is how to create a cosy sanctuary to recharge.

Create a Cosy Sanctuary To Recharge, the perfect space to relax, space to unwind, Relaxed mums, how to destress, the Frenchie Mummy

Set The Foundations With The Right Bed

It’s my ultimate location for a bit of peace when the house gets a bit mad. Choosing a comfortable, well-supported double bed can transform your room into a place that actively encourages rest.

I like having a king-sized bed frame so that I have plenty of space to stretch fully, but a double bed would do the job perfectly. Don’t forget to choose a firm mattress. It will prevent back strain and restless nights. For extra cosiness, layer your with soft, cosy bedding and put on an oil diffuser to fully relax. This is my favourite autumn self-care rituals at the moments. Add a good book to the recipe et voilà!

Create a Calming Atmosphere

To create the perfect relaxed space, you need to choose the right lighting. Indeed, with colours and textures, it can significantly shape the mood of a room more than you might realise.

Go for soft and muted tones to full unwind and add a dim light so that you can set it up right depending on your mood. If you want something a bit more subtle,  a scented candle is also une bonne option.

Replace heavy curtains with blackout blinds to regulate light without feeling oppressive. Add some texture withing the space. A few cushions or a throw can easily create the perfect environment to fully unwind. These subtle changes transform the room’s atmosphere, making it easier to let go of daily stress and relax fully.

Personal Touches To Create Your Oasis

Personalise your space with what makes you happy. I love nothing more than a fresh vase of flowers. It always makes me so happy and add a bit of colour to any room.

Add some keepsakes, reminding you of happy moments. I also love journaling each day. Not only it’s good for the soul as you can use it as a retreat for your thoughts. But I also love going back to them years later. It makes me realise how far I’ve come in life.

Even 5 minutes a day can be so therapeutic and put you on the right tracks, even if you are super stressed out.

Small Rituals That Enhance the Space

We are naturellement creatures of habits. I often talk about the power of routines for children. But it’s also very true for adults.

Rituals signal your brain that it’s time to switch off. Simple things like folding laundry, clearing clutter, or using a calming scent like lavender or vanilla establishes a sense of order and calm.

So use those small rituals to your advantage to feel calmer and relaxed. Par exemple, I have a strict evening routine to unwind and sleep better. As soon as I am in bed, I put my phone on air plane mode so I don’t get distracted with notifications, I apply my night serum and I read a good book. It always sends me to sleep!

Prioritising Your Sanctuary

As mums, it’s easy to put ourselves last. But creating a personal sanctuary is not a luxury. It’s an investment in yourself and it makes you a better mum! Motherhood is full of headaches, so you need to take care of yourself with small rituals that can enhance your well-being. You need to recharge your energy and clarity so that you can navigate family life with more patience and resilience.

What’s your favourite way to unwind?
