But I would not stop here. Nowadays, many landlords share places to rent on social media. Look through local FB groups par exemple. There are many opportunities there. If you are moving to a brand new area, then go to a real estate agents first. Plus, they can also help with leasing paperwork.
Visit The Neighbourhood
To make sure that you like the area, I would explore the neighbourhood while visiting places.
Go for a stroll, check out the local shops, and take a general look at the people to give you an idea of the locality. If you want to be super cautious, I would also search for the area’s crime rate. You don’t want to sign up to a lease and not feel safe.
Depending on what you need, I would also consider the distance to public transports. For me, it was a must to have a bus stop or a train station so that I could go into town easily. I always rented flats so that I could easily access my jobs. When I started in London and I was training to be a teacher, one of my school placements was 1 hour and a half away from my place and it was really hard!
Things To Consider
Before renting an apartment, there are some détails importants to consider so that you get la location parfaite.
Personnellement, I would always wanted to live close to London so that I can pop in town anytime I fancy. In my 20s, there was no way I was going to rent a place out of London. I was a Londoner at heart and I loved it this way. Later on, we decided that we wanted something quieter and so, we moved to Kent.
I would also consider things like the safety of the area and if there are any good schools nearby if you are a parents.

When we looked for our house, there was another property we liked but it was a bit over our budget. Sure, it was disappointing at the time, but we are very happy where we are and I feel that we made la bonne décision at the time.
When you work out your maximum rent, don’t forget to take other expenses into consideration. Par exemple, you will need to add insurance, electricity, internet service, and other fees. You might also have to pay extra expenses like security bonds, application charges, and the costs associated with moving.

Before you rent an apartment, make sure to thoroughly review the lease agreement and understand all associated costs. Par exemple, look for the lease duration or the payment due dates. I would also check if there are any rules regarding pets or subletting.
Look for the portions of the document that detail maintenance responsibilities, renewal of the lease, and the penalties associated with breaking the lease agreement prematurely. It is equally important to know what your rights as a tenant are. Whenever you are uncertain, contact the landlord or seek legal help.
Hidden Costs
Aside from your monthly rent, there can be hidden charges that come with leasing a certain apartment. These can range from utility costs such as electricity, water, and heating, as well as the cost for the internet and cable, along with maintenance charges.
Some buildings may have charges for certain services such as use of the gym, parking spaces, and extra storage. So take those into account to avoid all bad surprises.
To be sure, ask the landlord about extra charges and study the lease agreement carefully to check what else you are liable to pay.
Renters Insurance
Last but not least, you can also invest into a renter insurance as it can protect you. Par exemple, you can get an insurance that covers theft and fire as well as some other unfortunate events.

This type of coverage is not always necessary, but renters insurance is an inexpensive way to protect your things.
