  1. Turn Your Skills Into a Service

One of the easiest ways to start an online business is by offering a service based on something you’re already good at. Are you into fitness and know all les secrets to keep in shape? Then why not become a personal trainer and share your knowledge with others?  Do you speak another language? You can tutor children and help them with their GCSEs.

Are you a keen photographer? Why not sell some courses online and share all your best secrets? Or you can even offer your services as a photographer for local businesses that don’t have much time to look into it themselves.

Whatever your skillset, all you need is a simple website and social media to promote your brand et voilà!

Par exemple, if you’re a personal trainer, you could set up an online store to sell digital fitness plans, host live Zoom classes, or offer 1:1 coaching sessions. Sites like Shopify or WordPress make it easy to create a store and accept payments. That’s how I started back in 2016 and I’ve never looked back.

All you need is a structure and a clear pricing et voilà!

  1. Sell Digital Products

Selling digital goods is now très populaire. It’s so easy, especially as you don’t require shipping. You can sell ebooks, online courses, design templates, or even digital planners. I’ve even seen people selling colouring templates online! As long as you have fun designs and competitive prices, you should make it work.

If you are good with coding, you can offer your services as a web designer. Start by selling pre-made templates for small businesses.

Do you know how to create engaging content on social media? You can produce a course teaching others how to grow a following or attract clients. The great thing about digital products is they’re scalable. Indeed, you only need to create them once, and they can be sold over and over.

  1. Open an Ecommerce Store for Physical Products

If you make or source physical products, an ecommerce shop might be the right fit. This could be anything from handmade candles or artwork, to books, supplements, or even baby clothes.

Selling physical products does take more effort. For a start, you’ll need to think about stock, packaging, and shipping.

But platforms like Etsy, WooCommerce (on WordPress), and Shopify help take a lot of the hassle out of setup. They even offer guides for you to follow and do it within the comfort of your home. And if you don’t want to hold stock, print-on-demand services are a good workaround for things like custom mugs, t-shirts or prints.

Ad Lab Magento Agency in London is une bonne option for businesses that want expert help setting up or improving their online store with custom solutions and reliable support.

  1. Offer Freelance or Consulting Work

If you want more flexibilité, you can start with some freelancing. It’s a good way to get rolling on top of your day-to-day job and build your portfolio. From copywriting, working with online teaching companies and social media management to SEO and photography, it’s easy to start on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr

This way, you can taste the waters before launching your own website. Or it can be an extra outlet to showcase your services.

If you already have a bit of experience in a field, you can also offer consulting to other businesses or individuals. After nearly a decade of working on social media, I now also offer my services for influencers outreach.

  1. Create a Content Platform That Generates Income

Another way to start your own business while looking after your family is to build an online platform that makes money through advertising, sponsorships or affiliate marketing.

Blogs are not a thing from the past as some would like to believe. But you can also get a YouTube channel or even a podcast. It does take time to grow, but it’s a great long-term way to create income streams.

My advice? Start writing content on a niche that you enjoy. Once you grow a good audience, you can monetise it through affiliate links and sponsored posts. I started the Frenchie Mummy as a hobby in 2016 when I was on maternity leave and I never imagined that it would be my job. But I am so happy I took the plunge! Plus, I also learned so much along the way. It’s been a real game-changer in my life, all for the best.

Have you been thinking about starting an online business for a little while? You don’t need to be a tech expert or invest thousands of pounds to get started and be successful. With the right tools, some planning, and a bit of consistency, you can build something that works around your life. Give it a go in 2025 and you will be surprised by the results! Bonne chance!
