You can create either traditional jack-o’-lanterns or use your own designs. It’s totally up to you. Top tip, for a mess-free option, try using stickers or markers for decorating.
2. Spooky Silhouettes
Get some black construction paper to cut out spooky shapes like bats, ghosts, and witches. Then tape these silhouettes to your windows et voilà! You will create the most fun haunting effect when the lights are on. It’s such an cheap and easy craft activité to do over Halloween too. Plus, it’s so much fun as the kids can do any spooky shape of their choice.
3. Ghostly Garlands
Have you ever made one? We love making them at Christmas. But I think I will give this a go this year with Stanley.
You simply need some white balloons. Inflate them and draw spooky faces on them, or wrap cheesecloth around the balloons for a more ethereal look. Hang them across your living room or on the front porch so that people know your home is ready for Trick-or-Treat on the 31st of October. You can even make a mix with ballons oranges and make one with pumpkins if you want.
4. Creepy Candle Holders
J’adore having candles in the house. But this year, it will be even spookier with an eerier version. C’est simple. Use black paint to cover old candle holders and add some faux cobwebs for an extra spooky touch. You can even place them on a table with some scattered fake spiders or skulls for something plus spectaculaire.
5. Haunted House Display
Feeling very creative? Choose a corner of your home to create a mini haunted house. Use cardboard boxes to build a spooky structure, and decorate it with faux cobwebs, tiny figurines, and battery-operated lights. This can be a fun project for the whole family! You can paint it or just draw on it, it’s totally up to you!
6. Nature-Inspired Décor
Autumn is so pretty! C’est l’excuse parfaite to go for a family walk and collect autumn leaves, pinecones, and acorns. You can then use these natural elements to create centrepieces or wreaths. You can also paint the leaves in festive colours for a unique twist. We did it a couple of years ago and I painted mine in silver. It was so much fun!
7. Mummy Jars
Wrap empty jars in white gauze or fabric strips to create adorable mummy jars. Add googly eyes for a fun look and place tea lights inside for an even spookier look! These make such great fun decorations or can be used to hold candy!
8. Spider Webs
Use fake spider webs to create une atmosphère spéciale. Spread them all across your home: on pieces furniture, and even your front porch. Add some plastic spiders for that extra creep factor. It’s an easy way to instantly transform your space.
9. Dressing Up
Are you ready to do a fun afternoon of Halloween crafts with all the family? You must dress up as your favourite Halloween characters for the season! What will be yours?
I think I will be a dark queen! And as for Stanley, he will probably be Harry Potter this year as we’ve recently starting to watch the movies together…
10. Trick-or-Treat Countdown
And just like that, you are ready for the spookiest Trick-or-Treat in your house. To make it more exciting, why not create a countdown to Halloween using a chalkboard or a decorated poster. Each day, let the kids add a new decoration or write down something they’re excited about. It’s a fun way to build anticipation for the big day and be creative altogether. Plus, you practise literacy skills too!
