Goodnight Moon Review – #GOODNIGHTMOON70

Bonjour lecteurs! When it’s about putting Baba to bed, I struggled beaucoup at the start, before trying the Bath, Book, Bed technique. Since then, our evenings are easier and reading a story to Baba is the little moment of the day just for us two. Many of you probably know le classique Goodnight Moon. This cute story is celebrating 70 years of being one of the favourite bedtime stories of many children and parents. To celebrate its anniversaire, we received two copies of this so famous histoire. Here is our full Goodnight Moon Review just for you!

Goodnight Moon, a classic story

The two versions we received

Goodnight Moon is a short poem of goodnight wishes from a young lapin who doesn’t seem to want to go to bed! Very much like Baba, he is saying ‘Goodnight’ or ‘Bonne Nuit’ to everyone and everything! The brush, the comb, the moon and so many other random objects in sight are part of it.

This book has been read by so many generations and yet remains a classic, celebrating 70 years of putting little ones to sleep!

Goodnight Moon Review – Our thoughts

Macmillan Children’s Books sent us two versions of the book: a board book as well as a paperback version.

The story is cute and reminds me un peu of us. Baba is very much like this cheeky rabbit when it’s about to sleep. Any excuse is used to avoid having a littledodo‘ (sleep). I could very well be this (so patient!) ‘quiet old lady whispering hush‘ from the poem. I must admit, I am not casually sitting in a chair knitting while I am putting mon petit monstre to bed.

The story is simple but yet effective and would make for sure any maman smile. We have all been there, waiting patiently for our enfants to fall asleep!

The poem is definitely for sure my favourite feature.

I was at first very surprised by the bright colours used in the drawings. The dark green with a lot of oranges are definitely not obvious colours for a bedtime story.

The story of a rabbit who doesn’t want to go to bed…

But Baba really liked the graphics and it did the job at the end of the day!

The Frenchie Baba was intrigued straight away by the book

The fact that the book also contains illustrations in black and white breaks it down a bit and gives a nice edge to the book.

Goodnight Moon Review – Some bedtime tips

Another great feature I like with Goodnight Moon is the bedtime tips by Hannah Love at the end (please note that they are only available in the paperback version).

Being a first-time parent can be really stressful and God knows that I did many things wrong. Having such tips at the end of a bedtime story can be a relief for parents. Sometimes, it’s just simple things that you forget about, which could make a difference.

One of my favourite tips from Hannah Love (Sleep Consultant) is to be realistic and have manageable goals. It might sound obvious, but I reckon many parents get stressed out when it’s time to put le bébé to bed. When I started our new Bath, Book, Bed routine, I had very unrealistic expectations.  Home after at 6.00 pm, I thought I could have it all done (some play time, dinner, bath, reading) by 7 pm every day. And let me tell you that there had been some days when it didn’t work out!

Is this little one similar to me?

I am now more relaxed about it and don’t try to do too much at the same time. After all, ‘bedtime should be a soothing time for everyone‘.

That sounds like a lovely book for anyone struggling with getting little ones to bed. We’ve been very lucky when it comes to bedtime with BattleKid. Without knowing about it, we were doing the bath, book and bedtime routine since he was a newborn (yes we read to him as a newborn) and the story time continues now he is almost 4. Apart from one or two episodes of him not wanting to go to bed when he was around 2, he is great and gets himself to sleep once it’s lights out.

Aww it sounds like a wonderful story, the tips at the end sound like a bonus too, if only it was available in hardback so it wouldn’t get damaged xx
